Blood Magic: Alchemical Wizardry at its Finest!

Have you ever picked up a magic mod for Minecraft, and thought that it was too tame? Was there not enough danger involved when creating your next high-tech gadget? Bored with all of those peaceful animals just staring at you without a care in the world? Well then, I am glad you came here!

Blood Magic is an arcane art that is practiced by mages who attempt to gather a vast amount of power through utilizing a forbidden material: blood. Even though it does grant a huge amount of power, every single action that is performed with this volatile magic can prove deadly. You have been warned.

Before I get into the nitty-gritty of the mod, I need to just lay down a few ground rules for this thread, and any possible suggestion that you have:
  • Constructive criticism is something that I highly value and will never scoff at. If you have something that you feel is unbalanced about the mod, or if a process is not really fitting, feel free to voice your concerns! That does not, however, condone verbal abuse against the path that I use for the mod.
  • You are allowed to feel squeamish. This mod isn't for everyone, and I know that. It is not graphic, however: no disembodied limbs or any such thing will be found in this mod. I have added a bunch of lore to this post, as well as tooltips to the items where needed. Please, don't get angry at me for the ... grim content of the mod. It is mainly there to enhance the sense of sacrifice needed.
  • Suggestions ... bring 'em! I would LOVE any sort of suggestion or comment that you have about the mod. Keep in mind that I am at liberty to either not implement the change/addition or ignore a troll post. I will/do read every single post here, so post away! If it is something that you don't feel comfortable with (for any reason), just PM me on the forums, or on my YouTube account (WayofFlowingTime).

FAQ
Q: My weak blood orb doesn't show my current LP! Fix it please.

A: The mechanic for viewing the player's essence has changed due to some issues with mechanics. You now need a Divination Sigil to view a player's essence. It does other things, too, so it is worth it!

Q: Why am I dying so much?

A: It might be a good idea to make sure that you have enough essence to do a task. If you don't have enough essence for, say, an imperfect ritual, it will take it out of your health. If your health reaches 0... Well, you don't have to be a genius to see what would happen.

Q: Waffles?

A: Waffles!

Q: Where is x? When I watched spotlight "w," it had an item called x. Don't you need x to make y, before you can create z?

A: It might be wise to look at an updated spotlight, or check the changelogs. I'm not evil, so I do document everything that I can. There was most likely some issues with balance with the item, so it may have been removed for those reasons. Or you just grabbed the item from NEI without seeing it was a test item, in which case: shame on you!

Q: Isn't that armour ...

A: Yes, the armour texture is from the mod EE2. Pahimar and I are good friends, and I decided to use it for the armour and tools. He has given me his express permission for it, so need not worry!
Proof: https://twitter.com/...590600689139712

Q: In-game docs?

A: Although in an ideal world I would love to have in-game documentation, it is currently improbable for me to make it. There are a few reasons: one, it is labour intensive to get all the code and the writing, ect. And two, because of the work, I feel like it is a lot more good use of my time to instead code interesting features in the mod. There are many fabulous wikis out there, and this forum post has a lot of information, so if necessary you can refer to here or ask questions about any part of the mod.

Q: My game is crashing with the latest TC4!

A: To help stop this, remove the TC4 API from my Blood Magic zip file (if it is there). It should solve things.

Q: When will 1.7.2 be released?

A: It's out! Go get it!ࠔ

WayofTime...

You are a genius!
This mod is amazing!

It's a pity it's not for 1.5, then I would love to put it in my mudpack...

Keep up the good work!

Hey Way, nice to see that you released a mod!
Been a long time fan of your series.
Hopes it goes well!
Installing it now, will do some beta testing :3

EDIT:

Just to say, playing it now, so fun i REALLY love the air sigil and the lava crystal.
One of my favourite mods!

Could i give a idea, a GUI at the side of the your screen that says how much LP you have in your blood orb?
I develop a mod called Totemic, you can look at it over at http://www.minecraft.../topic/2367915-

Bug 1. Sacrificial Dagger kills you even in creative.
Bug 2. That also counts as the Weak Blood Orb, it also kills you, even in creative
Bug 3. The apprentice blood orb also kills you xD

Looks amazing! Totally awesome! I suggest contacting Sirolf and Jade Knightblazer for suggestions as well as myself as they have made dark mods like this that I certainly enjoyed and they know what they're doing. They made the necromancy and Harken Scythe mods, btw I love this type of mod, if you really want proof just look through pages 32-35 of the necromancy mod for my posts :)

Edit:Sorry for not saying what mod to look at, bet you thought I was a troll ;)

I fixed this for the next drop. I may wait a bit before adding this fix so as to add a bit more content later, but since it is only for Creative right now, I suppose it is fine.

Hmmm. That is odd, indeed. I'll look up how to fix it, and add it to the next release. Using a Blood Orb will alleviate that for a bit, but I'll get on it!

Looks decent - and I applaud your creative usage of 1.6's new health regeneration mechanics (for those who don't read patchnotes: regenerating health rapidly depletes your food bar, making health a lot less "free of charge" than it used to be).

As long as you can avoid any glaring cross-mod exploits, I'm sure this will be an excellent addition to any magic-themed modpack. Might be extra fun with the likes of IguanaMan's Hunger Overhaul, which puts a lot more emphasis on keeping yourself properly fed.

Looks pretty nice. I really like all the 'magic' mods, but most of them just seem extremely overpowered for little input, so I don't spend a lot of time using them. Thaumcraft, however, is rather well balanced, so I tend to play with that one a lot.

I'll try this one out, WayofTime, and I'll tell you what I think.

However, you might want to move the download from a Dropbox to something else, as they sometimes get... *ahem* when lots of downloads start happening at once.

I might add adf.ly as an optional link, since their service is up almost all of the time. I will, however, always keep the Dropbox link up, because I don't want people to be forced to wait to use my mod.

I meant hosting it on Curseforge, or similar. Oh, and nice usage of Kanji for the sigils, though I can't quite make out Void's.

I like this mod! I always like dark magic themed Minecraft mods. As an idea, if you were to carry all those items with you, namely the Apprentice Orb, or the Blood Orb, also the Sigils? Would there be a way to have slots specifically for the orbs and sigils that add buffs, in the player inventory, to conserve space, and/or have it made in a way that is not incompatible with Aether II or any other mods directly changing the player's inventory? I know that if the mod adds many more items to be only used in the player's inventory, it could definitely degrade space.

I may have to use that Lava Crystal texture! Not sure about the Apprentice Blood Orb one, but it could grow on me.

I believe the one on the Void Sigil is "Empty," or something similar. I think a good way to separate buff sigils with the others is for the buffs to simply show what they do, but the other utility sigils will have a word engraved. Or not - the mod is young!

I am kind of iffy about adding a new inventory interface/tab. What I'd probably do is have a "Sigil of Holding" which will have the capacity to hold all of the buff sigils, and by activating it you instead activate all of the sigils that it holds. Still have more stuff I will want to do with the buff sigils!

On another note, I am really wary of having the items being able to take from the "Absorption bin," as it were. While testing it in my test environment (I have a test sigil that I can prescribe a given potion effect to test), it seems that Absorption simply gives you free health. I know Regeneration also does this, but you still have to wait for it to take effect. Also, if I added that, it would bar me a bit from adding a Sigil to add the Absorption effect, which seems REALLY useful if you are in a pinch.

For now, I think I will leave it as it is for now - the method I use to damage the player is to read in the player's health, then take away the required toll. I have a feeling there is a reason why this doesn't work with absorption, though if enough people feel otherwise, I could add the functionality - it is just one class and about a half-hour of work away!
