I'm using the 1.6.2 launcher, but i can't join a 1.6.2 server because it says the client is out of date.
the client doesn't even show the server's ping, just a bunch of "???" and the message: "Client out of date''.

Can you verify that the .jar downloaded is 1.6.2? After opening your minecraft.exe, it says the version number in the upper right hand corner. If this does not print "release 1.6.2," then click edit. A window should pop up, here you can select which version you want to use. If your version number previously printed "release 1.6.2," then post back and I will attempt to assist you further.

Yes, it says "release 1.6.2" in the upper right hand corner. Below that it says "Status: Up to date."
