I am on a windows 7 machine and I want to play Theme Hospital.

Where can I acquire it and how can I get it to install and play properly?

I'm guessing Theme Hospital could be abandonware by now.  Just do a google search and I'm sure you can find a legit free download.

To play it you'll probably need DOSBox.  It's a free download but you'll probably need to look up a tutorial unless you're familiar with DOS.

Too lazy to google DOSBox like I told you to?

Download it here:
http://www.dosbox.com/

Walkthrough is here:
http://www.dosbox.co... ... _of_DosBox

I don't think you'll need to install the game, just unzip into a folder for use with DOSBox.  Follow the tutorial on how to mount a folder and navigate to the files.  You'll be using typed commands, but it's not overly complicated.

Appreciate the footwork you did there.

I'm at work, so I wont be able to try this until i get home.

I tried dosbox a few months ago, but couldn't get it to work right with the Theme hospital Files I had on my local. At best, it went to the title screen and then froze.

Ah, didn't realize you had already tried it.  I might actually feel like playing Theme Hospital so I went ahead and downloaded it.  You can find the download I used here:

http://www.bestoldga... ... spital.php

It's abandonware so don't feel bad about the free download, you're not pirating it or anything.  I tried it out and it works fairly well on my Windows 7 machine.  I'll give you a quick guide.

1.  Create a folder you want to keep your DOS games in, I like to keep it simple by making it D:Games/DOS.
2.  Unzip the game and place the entire folder into your newly created DOS folder.
3.  Start up DOSBox.
4.  In DOSBox, type in the following commands:
mount c d:/games/dos (Or the path to whatever your folder happens to be)
c:
dir
cd/themeh~1
dir
hospital
5.  Now your game is running.  Theme Hospital is somewhat newer for a DOS game, so you'll need to increase the speed of the DOSBox emulation to get it running a bit better.  Press Ctrl and F12 to increase the speed of your "DOS PC".  Keep pressing this until the game is running smoothly but not at a roadrunner pace.  If you go too far you can press Ctrl and F11 to decrease the speed.
6.  You can press Alt + Enter to make the game full screen.  Although I've found this can sometimes make it act a little wonky.

There ya go, enjoy your classic game!

Thanks so much. I cant wait to get home and play this after... what? Almost 15 years?

Wow has it really been that long?! God I feel old.

You said its playing fine for you? Is it everything you remembered it to be?

Also, think this could work for SimCopter, too? :-P

Yup it plays pretty well, a few strange hangups and colors but they worked themselves out.  I only played it for a few minutes but it seems like it would still be a fun game.  You just have to remember that games weren't as polished back then so some small things may annoy you.  It still has gameplay that you don't really find today.

The same process will work for most of the games from that era.  Although many of the great ones you remember won't be abandonware (free) because the publisher hasn't released them and probably still profits from the game.

It's not abandonware. Most major game retailers still sell it as a budjet title.

Really? I cant find any... Not in the US, anyways.

And I'm pretty sure Bullfrog Games doesn't exist anymore.

Ah, I see it's owned by EA now.  I kinda doubt they would give up games they might still profit from.  I'm guessing the Theme Hospital we've seen on all the abandonware sites is a demo.

Except that link crashes my internet explorer and, well, its the only one...
