I'd also like to add that I havent always had this problem, it started a couple of updates ago, when I initially started playing minecraft I didnt crash
If you play in browser it doesn't crash. Also, I think that Notch should fix this, we shouldn't have to uninstall and stuff, I mean, we bought this game, and I would like to play it.
Well, I have a fix. But I'm not very sure if it will work with you. Try restarting your computer.
In all seriousness I actually gave that a shot. I figured "screw it, nothing else seems to work. Maybe I'll get really lucky." Yeah...not so much so.

I understand that the browser seems to work for lots of folks with no problems but honestly? For me the game just isn't nearly quite as much crazy-awesome fun at that scale. I have a lovely 1680x1050 monitor and I wants me some fullscreen goodness, dernit...or even just the ability to play off of a client at all.

This is by far the most important point in my personal opinion; we've paid for this game partly so we could have access to Survival Mode in the first place and partly so we could play it on our terms outside of a browser. Yeah, I adore all the stuff the pros at Mojang have added but really...I would vastly prefer if they'd spend the next update just working out the compatibility kinks / memory leaks / whatever the underlying issue really is. Yeah, I get that that's much easier said than done...but it's discouraging for folks like me to have to play a game in a web browser for the sake of 'guaranteed' stability when we paid our hard-earned money in an economic slump (at least in America) just to be able to play it in a client.
Still, they've done a mighty fine job up to this point and I have faith that they'll figure this out...hopefully sooner rather than later.
---------------
EDIT-ADD: Another perfectly valid reason why folks like myself may not be so receptive to the 'just use the browser' suggestion? What do we do when Minecraft.net is down? We sit there staring at our computer screens hitting 'refresh' for the next hour before giving up and weeping like children, that's what.
=b
But no, really, not trying to imply that I think the site is crashy as all get out but it has been down often enough that if not for the crashy client I wouldn't be able to do any crafty goodness. Still, it's something for the folks who don't mind it.
Yup, I have the same problem and yeah this only started like a month or so ago. Rather recent problem, but annoying as all heck. What's the worst is I'm watching " Coe's Quest " on youtube and it's making me want to play minecraft so bloody bad, but I can't >.< Arg!
Also I have tried uninstalling drivers, cleaning drivers, re-installing new drivers. Uninstalling java, re-installing java. Nada. Zip. Nothing.
I don't wanna have to play in browser or play with the render distance on normal. That's like giving a racecar driver a fast car and telling him he can only go 60miles an hour. Nuu~
You are very lucky mypixlelove. Grats for getting it to work. I wish it was that simple enough to work for the rest of us. My java still crashes once it reaches 1gb of memory in task manager. >.>
That was one of the first things I'd tried to do and I've done it a few more times since just for the heck of it. No go for me. Still, I'm jazzed it worked for you, mypixlelove. =D
None of the fixes stated in any of the threads has helped me!
Maybe it's about time, the creators of this game actually gives us some response an what's going on here, or maybe they're too busy with their new game. Since we are paying customers, I see no reason for not slamming a lawsuit at them. Too many people have this problem without getting help from the Mojang crew for this to go unnoticed.
1468821 people have, according to the numbers given on the site, paid for this game. If, say, 1% of these people get this problem and no help, that would make 14688 people that would be eligible for a refund. Now, if they paid approx €15 each, that would make €220320. For a small company like Mojang, that would hurt (assuming the lads there aren't filthy rich). Consider now, that even more people gets a problem and no help. It will finally amount to a hefty refund. And then there is the cost of a trial or several trials, if it would come to that.
And why does it say "Solved" in the subject, when it's not?

First things first; it's marked as 'SOLVED' because the initial poster in question felt that his/her problem was, in fact, solved. Other posters (myself included) have continued to post in this thread with our issues. While I can't speak for anyone else I'm doing so in an effort to avoid duplicate threads when this one is sufficient for our needs. Granted, I would prefer if the thread were renamed so as to allow for those of us who are still having issues but hey...nothing I can do about that.

While I'd sure like it if Notch himself or even a representative of Mojang were to reply to this thread in an effort to give us some assurance that they were working on the perceived issue, heck...there are a lot of support issues as it is so I'm not gonna take it too personally if they don't. Perhaps it's naive of me but I still have faith that they're working on compatibility and stability issues.

I offer no support for the game, other than to resolve issues with payment. If you're experiencing problems, you can either check the FAQ below or try some of the community sites.
Ignoring the fact that I couldn't slam them with anything being a depressingly unemployed American when they're based in Sweden, they're not really under any legal obligation to do jack squat about our specific issues. We paid for access to an unfinished product that's under however much development they want to put into it. Sitting here and demanding that they drop everything they're doing to fix this one (admittedly nasty as all heck) problem or else seems counter-intuitive since they can...you know...choose to not do that. Would that be kind of a **** move? Yes, it would be. Do I think that's what they'll do? Not at all...but we're not exactly going to encourage them to do much of anything anytime soon with threats of lawsuits.
The best thing we can do is chill, take note of the issues we're having (including our system specs and under what circumstances the 'bugs' crop up) and post them in the relevant threads so when they do get to it they'll have as much information as possible. We want to help them tackle these bugs as efficiently as possible so everyone can benefit, not just one or two of us.

No matter how many disclaimers they have, there's still something called consumer rights. If you bought a toaster, and it only toasted one side of your bread, you would go back to the store to either: get a replacement, get it fixed (for free) or get a refund. If the box the toaster came in said that the toaster only toasted one side of the bread, I would be out of luck.
Since it did not say anywhere, during the registration and payment-process, that the product might not work, their disclaimer is 100% invalid, and we are entitled to a working product or a refund.
You can definately throw a lawsuit at them, but in your case it would cost more than it would pay off, thus a collective lawsuit would be better. For me, it would be easier since I live in Norway.
In any case, when I say lawsuit, I mean a collective lawsuit, since it would be more effective. Then the choice would be easier for the developers; either pay up, fix the damn toaster or gimme a new one.
In my street, there lives two lawyers, and they both agree with me.
same problem i was building a castle and freeze and when i retryed and bam my castle plans were lost can anyone solve this or shall the spiders will eat ya

Hopefully that should improve performance for most of you
If Notch was gonna be making other games, why did he even make Minecraft? better than wasting my money.
It's been like 10 days since my last login, cause of that stupid java error and the common " CANNOT CONNECT TO MINECRAFT.NET CAUSE I SUCK" error. Seriously, did you just make the game to get money and then leave it to die?
At least do something, and I'm sure you're too busy going to resorts, every day.
having this same problem, but i find that if i stay in one area its fine but if i go exploring it goes black
i also have these white lines around my torches is anyone else experiencing this?
im gtting tired of this, it happens whenever i enter a new section of a map in about a minute, just recently i exited the nether and it froze, so when i restarted i had lost my diamond sword!!!! D:
