[1.5.2][FORGE] Better Gems and Ores [no longer in development]

I am no longer maintaining this mod. I have too much going on between family, work and home lately that time has drawn thin. So I have asked RobZ51 of the GemsPlus mod to take over my code and he will be continuing the work I have started with this mod.



  This mod, another former part of MTJT, adds 27 new Ores to the game. Originally when it was part of MTJT there only 12, however as my mod grew and ideas were expanded, so did much of the aspects of of the mod. As the mod grew in various directions I began to wonder how I would accommodate for the growth of each aspect. Needless to say the mod became a nightmare to maintain in its larger form, and being only one person doing the coding, textures, posting, and all, I decided to break down the mod into the various pieces of what it is now. Better Gems and Ores is just that, Gems and Ores. There are some custom enum materials, lots of ingots and gems, some tools and a few other nice custom things. All my ores and ingots and gems even use the ore dictionary as well. This is a functional yet not a complete vision of what is ultimately intended. This mod also adds a new furnace type block called the tumbler. It runs off a generator, tumbles rocks, in this case ingots, a lot slower than a standard furnace which after all it is creating gem stones. So I hope by now I have you at least a little interested, so lets see, what new ores and gems are in the mod.

Along with the above there is also tools and armor, tools are made from marble and black ingots, and there are also 3 swords...Black, Marble and Granite. As for armor there are marble, amethyst, sapphire and granite, all of which are made from ingots and crafted the usual way.

Thanks very much, I appreciate good feedback. I like to use textures above 16x because of the detail....Mostly I get free images, or non copyrighted works from the web as I suck at textures....then resize them and fix any over pixelated areas and make them a good size like 32x or larger to 128x...sometimes they clash with MC textures, but there are texture packs and optifine and some other useful things to make the standard MC textures look real nice too....Thanks again, I hope to get more comments, good and bad, and maybe boost up the popularity of this and my other mods as well. all 5 were originally one mod...MTJT, which got to big so I split it up and now we have better gems and ores, sppedboats, bettercrafting and smelting(going up tonight), builder, and of course MTJT, which is now just trees and flowers and biomes....

The only thing I suggest is to make the textures tile, they don't right now.
Other than that, looks good. What else are you planning on adding?

Well with the base of this out of the way and I already use the forge ore dictionary, was looking to make an API for it, just have to learn how. Also I want to make a few more of the ingots into a tool or armor material so it can be used for armor and tools as well in the API. I also plan to make the ores spawn in specific biomes and spread them out a bit, right now they are too easy to obtain.

fixed the armor bug with the marble armor when crafting plate has the boots icon, adding biome support for the ores so they only spawn in specific biomes. Adding more material for other uses of the ingots.

Ores are now set to different biomes, trying to add that to the config perhaps and let you choose the biomes they spawn in too...Also the marble texture for the plate has been fixed in the next update, and I added tow new sets of armor, ruby and onyx, and three new swords, coral, turquoise and painite, going to add an effect to the painite sword and maybe one for the coral sword.

Version 0.2.0 is up, ores now generate by biome, or at least they should be, I have added 2 new armor and 3 new swords, all durability has been altered and a better change log will be posted...soon

I would say give the gems and ores enchantments. Perhaps you could make some enchantments or use potion effects? Or combine them?

I have thought about that, actually added to some point in the latest one, still working out the details of things fixed and all to make a better thread. I plan to add an effect to the player if holding painite so they take damage. Thanks for the post.

I am adding damage to the player for the painite when being held, Also will be adding metadata support for the items and blocks to reduce the amount of ids used. And also plan to add maybe a 2 input furnace to make some alloys and such, may also add in some options to the config for the user to use and make their own recipes for the furnace.

I would so download this mod if my computer weren't so messed up. I love all these things in real life (I'm talking to you Chrysocolla!) but I have to ask something...Why are all of these making ingots? None of them makes sense except Pewter. Especially Granite....

Not to be mean or whatever, just saying it's not very realistic. Still, nice mod!

Well, I see the debate about realistic in minecraft has not lost any speed.....Any way, thanks for the comment, I am glad you like it. They all make ingots and the gems because of the minecraft way of doing things. Also I had intended this mod to be used by other modders to have access to the ingots and ores of the mod and the gems too....Everything in the mod uses the ore dictionary so it can be accessed by other mods eliminating the need to recreate all these items over and over from one mod to the next. It just doesnt seem to be taking off any at all. I suppose I could make it a bit more realistic by making the ores drop chunks of stone first that has the mineral in it and then smelt them to either gems or ingots or rods or what ever. I am looking to make some changes, nothing drastic, just add metadata support and reduce the number of block and item ids. Stick around for it and when your computer runs better, I may have done some things you like more and might use it too....
