After months of work, the Aether team proudly presents...

A Gilded Games collaboration

What is Aether II?

The Aether II is the sequel to the Aether I. Much has changed since the days of the Aether I, but it still remains a collaboration between people from various different disciplines with a shared goal of creating a new and unique dimension.

Why are there so many bugs?

The current version of the mod is in its first Alpha stage. This means that it could be highly unstable in some areas. But don’t fret, we’ve tried our best to make this initial release as bugless as possible. As usual, make sure to post any bug reports you find to the forum Posted Image

Our team roster is as follows:

Project lead and coding: Kingbdogz

Coders: Cafaxo, Jaryt, Saspiron

Artists: Dark, Oscar Payn

Musician: Emile van Krieken

Lore Writer: Liberty

Check out the site of the official server, hosted by Craftnode: www.AetherII.com
You can access it through the main menu!

Our goal is to rework the Aether to be the best experience it can be in a multiplayer context and to improve on where we fell short previously. In addition to adding a new dimension, the Aether adds a number of different features, items, mobs, music, dungeons and blocks. As is, this is the second Alpha release for this version of the Aether, and it is for Minecraft 1.6.2. We haven’t added all the features we want to yet, but we will definitely be working on more content updates in the future.

The Aether is a “hostile paradise”, composed of floating sky islands filled with strange creatures and great mysteries. Brave adventurers who wish to explore this forgotten paradise merely only have to compose a portal out of glowstone and ignite it with a bucket of water.

Staying up to date with development

Wondering how the mod’s coming along? We use Facebook, Twitter and Reddit to share development updates. Please refer to the links below:

Myself, Cafaxo and Jaryt also regularly stream our development on Twitch:

The Aether introduces several huge mechanical features to enhance the experience both in the Aether and everywhere else in Minecraft.

Party System

First of all is the party system. Previously in Minecraft, the only real way to form a group with others without having to worry about things such as friendly fire were from overlaying plugins such as factions or towny over a Minecraft server. Now with the party system, you can form a party with your friends, complete with an overlay UI which lets you see who’s in your party, their health, their hunger, their armour and the amount of coins they have, without the need for plugins! Players can name their own party, and the maximum party size is 10 players.

One of the features we have worked on for this release is the dungeon system. This system isolates dungeons from the main world and functions with the party system. Dungeon blocks regenerate instantly if broken, meaning no one can get inside even with creative mode. Instead of players rushing into a dungeon and demolishing whatever’s there and looting, the dungeon system requires players to form a party first. When the party is ready, you simply right-click on the dungeon door and everyone confirms if they’re ready. Since a party can only have up to 10 players, dungeons will present a decent challenge to players. Only one party can be present in a dungeon at any given time.

Dungeons have three modes. The first mode is “available” meaning the dungeon is free for any party to enter. The second mode is “occupied”, meaning a party is already inside the dungeon. The third mode is “conquered”, which occurs after a player in your party has exhausted that dungeon. A dungeon becomes exhausted for a player either after the player finishes it or leaves when inside the dungeon three times. This prevents players from running the same dungeon for easy loot.

Dungeons also regenerate their loot, mini-bosses and bosses after a party leaves it, meaning that content is available for other parties. This ensures everyone gets a chance at dungeons, rather than whoever gets there first.

The first dungeon that this mod had added is the Sliders’ Labyrinth. This dungeon expands an entire island, meaning you’ll have no shortage of loot to grab, enemies to fight or chambers to explore!

The dungeon has three mini bosses which must be defeated before you can gain access to the final boss, the Slider. There’s a couple of new twists with this boss, so be careful!

On top of these new systems, not only do we have the original content of the Aether, but we have new mobs, new skyroot tree variants, new blocks, new items, new loot and reworked models and skins! We have lots more content planned.

Donators to the Aether get their own special UI which allows them to use exclusive skins for capes and moas! Donating helps the team develop the mod and you get some nice looking skins, so everyone wins, right?

You can either use the button at the top of the post, or go to our website www.gilded-games.com/aether/donate, type in your in-game Minecraft username in the required field as well as the amount you wish to donate in the "Amount AUD" field, then click on the Donate button to do a donation through Paypal. You’ll then receive exclusive ingame capes and skins for the Moa’s when you’re playing the Aether. There is no minimum amount of money you have to donate to get the bonuses.

The Launcher

We have been hard at work creating a launcher for the Aether that automatically installs everything you need without any hassle. It updates automatically, so you will never have to check this page again, theoretically! For the modding wizzes, it installs everything in %appdata%/roaming/.aether/, so you can still manage everything you need. Note that you need to have Java 7 installed to use this launcher.

Setting Up A Server

Aether II is simply a Forge mod, so you should be able to set everything up fine with a Forge server. Then just add the three .jar files (The Aether, PlayerCoreAPIand Threaded Lightning) to the mods folder. The latest versions are also compatible with MCPC+.
