Some of the staff members and I have made a parkour map on our yet to be released server. I've recorded the first successful benchmark, and wanted to share it with you all.
The inspiration for this map was taken from mirrors edge. We initially tried to recreate a scene from the game but it was too difficult to do it accurately and still keep the map fun, so we ended up with what you see now.
If there are enough requests I will even upload this map for others to play, even though it is an exclusive feature of my new server.
I would like to challenge others to beat my time. Keep in mind, this video is a benchmark, I recorded it today after finishing the map.
I will record a proper speedrun shortly.
If you like the vid, please leave a comment so that I can thank you personally for your time.
Challenge 1: Beat a time of 4 minutes 20 seconds. You will need to provide some form of proof such as a video, or by letting me witness your best time myself on my server.
Edit: If you would like a custom made parkour/capture the flag/arena then let me know and I might be able to make one for you. You will need to be able to explain it to me in detail. We could even build it together on my server.
Me too, I would rather take a building and turn it into a parkour map instead of building illogical floating fence/web/wool combinations. Everything should be functional and look good at the same time.
Please let me know if there are any issues with the map, I struggled setting the spawn point with mcEdit for some reason. Also, I didn't add anything else to the world other than the map so you will see random water pouring off the buildings. This is because I built the map on my server, and saved it as a schematic. Mcedit is a strange thing.
I just downloaded your map today and I've got to say, I absolutely love it. I played it for a few hours and finally got a time under four minutes: 3:53.20 I believe 3:40-3:45 is possible as I did mess up on a few jumps in my video. I have played Minecraft for years and this is the first map I've ever wanted to record myself because I just had that much fun.
I'm glad you enjoy it, it is a fun map. You beat my benchmark time by quite a lot, I'm impressed. I am going to host the entire world save because I have another 2 parkour maps (the third one is not finished but it nearly is) and there are some cool capture the flag maps and hunger games arenas. I would like it if people can use the maps because I am no longer opening a server so the maps will go to waste.
As for the map itself, it's great. Lots of fun, creative, and perfect for just taking a few minutes to try out a quick challenge. It was a bit confusing trying to find where to go on the first few runs, but I got the hang of it eventually. There were a few parts of my run I could have improved upon, so I think a time quicker than 3 minutes is definitely possible. Overall it went very smoothly though.
Wow, fantastic run, The Sketch. Only thing I saw weird with it is that you just kind of skipped over a part at 40 seconds in.
That's probably the only part of the run I wasn't sure about. I feel like it could be considered skipping a part for some, but it's just a quicker way of doing that section. If the map creator sees that and says it's not allowed, I'll make another run.
I really don't mean to sound like a ****, because even if you had gone through the usual part right there, you still would have beaten my time. You had a ton of really nice strats that I am going to try from now on.
