W.I.P

Hi! I am an IT student from Finland trying to get my art out to you guys to enjoy!
I don't really have much to say yet since I just started making this texture pack.
This is a thread where I will post my texture packs, even the ones that don't yet exist.

What is this for now?
Hopefully it is a place where you will give me some feedback on the textures so I know what to do next. And also grant me ideas of what I should be doing if I am focusing on the wrong parts of the pack.

When will these packs be available?
When I decide that they should be. (Usually after completing a certain part of the textures, ex:blocks)

Why is this page so boring?
I will add some better visuals when(if) the time comes.

In one of the screenshots [insert block here] has a stolen texture!
Very unlikely, unless I have forgotten to remove some of my early reference pictures taken from various sources. (In case this happens the shot will be taken down and the pack will be checked)

[insert block here] has a texture taken from [insert website here].
Please read the statement above.

[Insert block here] should be different, perhaps [insert description here/insert reference photo here].
Perhaps, that depends on if I like it or not.

I would like you to have this texture made by me for use in your pack!
Thank you very much! I would love to get some textures into my folders Posted Image
Although, if the block has been done already, I doubt I'll be using it, but who knows?

I would like to give you money to help you! How do I do this?
Very simple, you don't. I chose to do this for free and that I will do!

I would like to do a [Review/Video/Something] from/of your texture pack! Could you give me the textures you have so far?
Unfortunately no, the pack is restricted until further notice.

I would like to help you. But how?
Make me MOB/NPC textures, I have no clue what to do with those yet Posted Image.

I don't like you or your textures.
I hope you have not gotten this attitude because of me Posted Image. But no one is forcing you to stay.

I would like to play a game with you. Do you have a server/ could you come to this server?
As long as your not the puppet from SAW, Id be happy to play a game with you!

Would you make your pack compatible with [insert mod here].
I would love to make more textures, but I need to finish the initial pack first!

Well, you need a download link in the texture pack section, this belongs into texture discussion :)
Oh, and that sand is still a bit grainy/noisy/high-contrasted, so you might want to get new screenshots or work on the texture.
Your logs look a little saturated and bright, I'd personally prefer some more decent colors.
Your wheat and cactus looks great though, good job!

Well it's the same set of pictures for now, so the sand has not changed.

What exactly do you mean by "decent colors", do you mean that they should be a bit darker?

COULD AN ADMIN PLEASE MOVE THIS TO TEXTURE DISCUSSION

I mean less saturated and a bit darker, not so harsh.
And you can report your own post asking for it to be moved.

Am I the only one who thinks realistic packs are a bit like simple packs? They all look pretty much the same, just in a different scale. Nice work you've made here, it's not you to blame - but this looks a bit like any realistic texture pack.
Check out my texture pack, the most detailed 8x you will ever see!

It depends on how well done they are. I personally get a big uncanny valley effect from realistic packs, so I don't like any of them even if they are unique

The problem with this pack is that everything looks very flat. This is especially evident on the furnace. The entire face looks an inch deep at most. Not good when you're trying to make it look hollow inside. The dispenser is a little better, but still seems pretty flat. The end portal block is the worst, with no sense of depth or any shadows to make it seem anything other than painted on. :(

I see what you're going for, and the actual texture work is nice, but I'm guessing that you're used to doing it in an environment where the rendering engine will take care of the shadows and lighting for you. That's not going to work in Minecraft. :(

Okay, first of all, these are not the final textures I will add more detail as I get along making more textures.
And thank you for pointing that out. I will fix it as soon as possible.

And for the portal, there is no crafting recipe for it, so I don't know what materials I would need to add into it. This causes it to be very simple for now. I haven't really put much attention to it.

For now, I'm trying to get a certain look on these textures, some of them have that already. I can't blame you for not liking realistic textures, obviously there are too much of them. But I'm doing this for fun and learning.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, THIS IS NOT A REALISTIC PACK. I'm sorry to hear you got that impression.

Might wanna actually put some definition in those ores. ATM they just look like some youths went to town on the stone with some spray paint.
If you need some inspiration just open up Google images and see what ore deposits look like in real life and try and work with or around that.

So far so good though.

Do you guys know how the CTM works these days?

The logs are better, but azzanine is right, they need more embedding. A dark edge or cracks and more shading usually help with that.
I'd also add a shadow below the sidegrass.
The CTM works pretty much the same, but all the tiles are now split up into separate images, much like the terrain.png.

Ok, thanks for the tips.
I'll start working on the fake shadows for the textures right away!

I have already "deepened" the texture on the furnace, and added leaves and jungle leaves.

also, how would you make a .permissions file for 32(?) pieces of sand texture from an 2048x2048 separated into pictures named with numbers from 1-32?
