Diamond Armor looks Cheesy

The best armor in the game looks like you're megaman or some plastic like cartoon character. And the helmets look goofy. I think the aesthetics of this should be improved, or skinnable in a way that everyone can see YOUR styling of gear (not like a texture pack that only changes your client)
Anyways, Diamond looks bad, and teal isn't diamond coloring anyways, but my main issue is the armor.
The mechanics of all this is fine, although I'd love to be able to change the styling of the helmets to add viking style horns or roman style helmet or something of that nature for variety but I suspect that's more of an Adventure mode thing.
For now I'd just not like to look like a candy coated cartoon.
Thanks for listening.

If you're that worried about aesthetics, I humbly suggest you're playing the wrong game. (Though you could invest in time to pick up a texture pack that includes armor...)

I think pigs look cute. I like the cows too. But if I didn't, they're easily skinnable for my client.
As I've described in the OP, I want to have a more appealing representation of my character in the game. This is how I look to not just me, but everyone else. This is why we have custom skins. But armor covers this. Making diamond armor look more appealing (or being able to globally turn off my showing armor) would be an improvement imho. Hopefully this clarifies my point, which a skinpack does not address.

If custom multiplayer skins lets me skin my character wearing different levels of armor, that would work also.
I play 100% in multiplayer and this thread is all about my avatar in minecraft. Not just how I look to myself.

2) it shouldn't really matter how other people view you, if you don't like the armour piece don't put it on
3) if we allowed some sort of global armour off system, PvP servers would be cheap since people would just turn their armour off and attack people, and the people attacking him, would say he has some sort of health hack, if they didn't know that this was implemented
In General, it doesn't really matter if the helmet looks goofy, if your wearing it, it means your ready for battle, and you don't usually care what you wear to battle in games, unless you could make custom uniforms, then that would be awsome (but would take a lot of coding)

I understand you don't get my point. I don't need you to. It's my suggestion, and if people don't get or agree with it, I'm ok with that. It's not vanity or trying to be unfair in PVP or whatever. It's about having control over a world, and this first begins with your own self in the game.
Do you take any time at all about how you appear in real life? Do you cut your hair, or take showers? I suspect you do, many do. Does this mean we're insecure about ourselves, or perhaps we just like to look good because we enjoy it, and want to reflect our personality in our appearance?

I understand your point, I get that it isn't made to be unfair in PvP, what I'm telling you are the cons of such a system, such a system that you are suggesting to be implemented, as I said it would be unfair in PvP that is a con to such a system being implemented, I'm sure there are others, others that I have yet to think of others that have yet to be mentioned
Rhadiem said:
Ok yes, I understand that that wasn't a great example to use, because it is a habit for us to take showers (most of us) and it is a habit to groom ourselves (again most of us),
but I remember seeing a topic about inforced Texture packs for servers to get rid of X-ray vision texture packs, now if this was implemented it could get rid of X ray vision and hopefully, some servers would choose cool looking texture packs, that don't make the Armour sound dorky, but really I know I'm sounding like a teacher when I say,
you shouldn't care that much about what people think about you, especially on a game
but a lot of people do, just use a texture pack for now and forget that other people aren't using it, that should fix the problem (for now) until something like an inforced server texture pack is implemented (Hope for It)

And this option may very well make armor skinning insanely popular, and there would be almost as many armors as actual skins. At that point, the confusion would be complete.
It's a nice idea from an aesthetic point of view, but not so much in terms of gameplay mechanics.

I appreciate the concern, which seems genuine, but I really don't get why you're taking the time to say all this, I'm not having a fit about teal armor. I just think it looks bad.
I get that PVP servers may not like it. But then again, it would allow people to have some sense of mystery to them. Do they have armor on or don't they? I could even fake armor by a goofy teal skin and run around looking stronger than I am. Lots of dynamics there, so I don't necessarily agree that all PVP'ers would agree with your point. Some may like the uncertainty.
Anyways, I'm not going to argue the point. Surely there could be a solution for this in a server config that could counterpoint any issue raised here.
At the end of the day, I think the teal armor looks cheesy and I would love to see it improved. I also recognize that there are those who disagree and like to bump the thread to talk about it their disagreement and try to estimate why, beyond my explanation, I think it matters. Fair enough.

Well, a server config could be added that forced players to use a certain armor skin (or body skin, for that matter) and that would solve this problem completely. I actually see many benefits from doing both of these things for both RP and PVP reasons.
If I'm running a RP world, I don't want purple barney running around there in gold and teal armor. I want them to look like an elf or a dwarf or whatever, wearing mithril armor, etc.

Well my idea was to add more realistic armours, like plates to create plated armours, chain mail, and studded leather armour,
and I was also thinking of adding some kind of armour die system, it would work along the lines of
- Place the dye in one slot and the armour in the other
- Leather armour would be completely converted into that colour
- Metallic armours would have some sort of tint of the dye used
- Diamond armour would (insert suggestion here)
so this would make Armour more customizable, and make it less ugly for people who don't like teal armour
or maybe you dye the ingots, then make the armour, which would realisticly let tainted diamond armour possible and realistic then the first one, when I refine this idea, expect to see a new thread

Ok you lost me, so people would be seeming to wear a certain armour, but they wouldn't

Ok that is being a bit too controlling, I know now that I hate random skins as much as you do, but....yeah there is nothing to suggest to that, it's just a bit too controlling

I'm ok with all this, but my request would be just to make the teal less cartoony, perhaps even darkening it a bit would help, or giving it some patterning or something that makes it more appealing.

I'm totally OK with people wearing random skins, I'm just saying that if someone doesn't like randomness to skins or possible custom armor skins, they should be able to have the server force them off or to a particular type.

We dont need to get any more complex then this.

So just change the colour of the material and the other stuff crafted by it, this would probably not get implemented, since it is only a few people that think of this as a valid argument
Rhadiem said:
Okay, Okay, custom Armour skin-packs will be really hard to implement and maybe impossible, what I was saying was that the server admins would enforce a certain texture pack, so that everybody would use the same texture pack, everybody would be wearing the same Armour, everybody would see everybody Armour as they see themselves, it would be the "simplest" way to help your problem and other problems that include cheating
