[1.5.2] Minecraft Horizon Pack Version 2.13
<<LATEST VERSION ADDED 20th of October>>

Quick Link to website for the Technic pack:
http://www.technicpa...zon-pack.140141

Help us build our wiki pages for the modpack:
http://gamemakerworld.com/horizon/

You love Minecraft Vanilla but it just got old? You don't want a world filled with tons of machines or magics that mess up even the air around you but you want to keep the original Minecraft spirit? Then Horizon is exactly the right pack for you. It focuses on making your Minecraft experience great, instead of turning it into a different game altogether.

At the same time it gives you the tools to build awesome adventure maps beyond your wildest dreams and with great ease. Prepare to make your future maps with Horizon and blow the minds of your fans with breath-taking adventure content that you can produce better and faster than ever before.

Please note that all of the included hi-tech mods have most of their recipes removed by default. You can change this in the RecipeRemover config - even on the server side only in case you are running a server with Horizon - and players will be able to craft those items after all. For everybody else they won't get in the way of playing regular style Minecraft

Under downloads, you will find instructions on how to get the pack for the TechnicLauncher as well as MultiMC and also an easy little tutorial for building servers with it that support bukkit plugins as well.

Here are the main features of the modpack:
  • Make your own fully custom weapons, tools and armor (armor coming soon)
  • Find new and awesome ores and materials
  • Use many new crops for farming
  • Fight against a wide range of new mobs that fit well into the MC world
  • Endgame lets you explore a whole new dimension
  • Comfortably store huge amounts of items
  • Easily search for items and recipes
  • Never loose your way since you now have a real map and waypoints
  • Add furniture and comfort to your home
  • Enhance the way furnaces and redstone work in the game
  • Store your experience levels in special magical books
  • Be a miner on the move with campfires and a bag to carry your items
  • Turn existing blocks into beautiful new versions that make building even more joyful
  • Use slopes and steps with virtually any kind of block texture on them
  • Item transport system, BUD block and other utilities
  • Explore a beautiful underground that looks the way minecraft caves should have looked from the start
  • Create powerful artifacts to put all those mobs in their place or to boost every part of your Minecraft life
  • Change the look of your character and play as an elf, a dwarf or one of many more alternate characters using your own custom skin
  • Use new moves as you sit, lay or dance in your world
  • Cut up blocks into tiny bits and make your very own block designs
  • Build your own steampunk heaven with railways and steam semi-automation
  • Find and breed tons of trees with various wood types to make unique blocks from
  • Breed bees that can make almost any precious resource in the game for you
  • Present your favorite items on shelves, in show cases and in many other ways
  • Confront one of the scariest monsters in the history of entertainment...
  • Set up your own fancy portals to bridge any distance with one step
  • Make use of an improved user interface for chat and interaction with players and mobs
  • Create awesome servers with fully customizable NPCs, shops, mercenaries, guards and even mobs; there are also tons of weapons, clothes, armor and other items that you can assign your own crafting recipes to or that can be quest rewards
  • build your adventure maps even faster by editing the NBT data of villagers, players, other entities and even yourself ingame
  • control your world and adventure maps with sophisticated programming that you can link up with any redstone or contraption
  • remove recipes you do not want your users to have and they really disappear completely for your users without needing to change their client-side configs
The modpack comes with everything you need and we have checked/received the permissions for every part of it before packaging it up. After our first application with FTB was completely ignored (that's 5h of wasted work making it compliant with their strict rules), we might apply again in the future once the pack doesn't need frequent updates anymore. Until then we are quite happy on TechnicLauncher and will also keep our pack on Technic and MultiMC anyway.

Mods in the pack:
Spoiler: YouTube Videos

Spoiler: Screenshots

Spoiler: Download and Installation

License and Legal Stuff:

All mods belong to their respective creators. Keep in mind that we do not own any rights beyond the ones explicitly granted to us by the modmakers. You, as a user, only have the right to use the modpack and to alter it for your own personal use. When using it as a basis for a new modpack, make sure to acquire the permissions from each modmaker before releasing it.

Questions? Ask in the thread!

Multiplayer Support:

Horizon is fully SMP-compatible and we test every version extensively on both SSP and our SMP server alike. Check the installation instructions, which include a little tutorial for setting up a server. Also, if you run into trouble, just post in the thread.

Visit the Official Horizon Server "Horizon HotZone":

Launch the pack and connect to:

nova.gamemakerworld.com:22222
/!\ IMPORTANT /!\ THIS IS A NEW ADDRESS /!\

/!\ WHITELIST HAS BEEN REMOVED /!\

Special features:
- true survival environment that challenges you every step along the way

Very soon there will be a dedicated thread for the Horizon server

In the near future, there will be an additional RPG server using Horizon and hosted by us (It is already up and recruiting builders and quest designers).

Also note that there is a smaller pack with only the core of the Horizon mods added called "Horizon Pack Core". It can be found here:

http://www.technicpa...zon-core.186789

There is also a very fast server without whitelist for that one at:

nova.gamemakerworld.com

Last but not least...

Enjoy!

Glad you like it - let me know if you think something is missing in terms of mods or aspects of gameplay. I can also do some modding of my own for things like recipes, new blocks and basic stuff like that.

I also would like to create a mod for customizable aesthetic blocks (probably single block id with 256 variations) and will need suggestions and texture artists for that :)

We just completed setting up a stable test server for Horizon. When you make your own, make sure you keep "More Player Models" out of the server mods folder because it is client-side only and will crash the server!

Currently we are just derping around and testing out features but soon we will build a decent spawn area and then begin whitelisting people who want to check it out. Meanwhile we are also getting ready to submit our pack to the FTB team as a "public private modpack".

Hopefully all the mods will be at 1.5.2 soon so we can profit from all the latest features coming to Tinkers Construct and Natura and release a 1.5.2 Horizon Pack.

For the next version we are including the following mods:

The Camping Mod by Rikmuld (permission acquired):
http://www.minecraft...d101dssplansmp/

Enhanced Books Mod by sn0re (free to use at will):
http://www.minecraft...ow-open-source/

More awesome mods are being carefully evaluated and we are waiting for answers from mod authors. Of course, we will stay true to our intentions of not creating a large clutter but making it a balanced pack that feels like it is a better vanilla and not a heap of random stuff.

There are now patches available that add The Camping Mod and Enhanced Books Mod (1.0.0->1.1.0) and one for Better Worlds PAF, Barrels and Custom NPCs (1.1.0->1.2.0):

(EDIT: available only for test users; now outdated)

Another piece of good news: BukkitForge works rather nicely with Horizon. For that reason we will also keep the pack at 1.5.1 until BukkitForge has a stable 1.5.2 version.

One more mod has been added:

Crayfishs Furniture Mod (permission acquired):
http://www.minecraft...-api-bug-fixes/

Afterwards we did a lot of testing and both client and server appear to be very stable and we have full BukkitForge support for the server. I also streamlined the package, reducing download size where possible. I will now be editing the main post to add the new download link and the simplified installation instructions for 1.3.0.

We are almost done with the pack now. We have permission for using x-craft which just needs a bit more fixing up to be used and we are waiting on a reply from the author of Trapcraft. So it should be version 1.5.0 that finalizes the pack for now.

In this patch 1.4.0, we added two awesome mods that give more life to minecraft and allow you to go beyond blocks. There was some discussion in the team before we added MinePainter but we ended up using it after the "we love blocks" faction was sufficiently satisfied that MinePainter custom blocks are indeed still "blocky". So here are the mods with their links:

MinePainter Mod (free to use):
http://www.minecraft...-and-pixel-art/

Dungeon Mobs Mod (free to use)
http://www.minecraft...nfig-file-v253/

I know it is a bother, but please download the complete 1.4.0 pack to use this version. We did a lot of tweaks and changes (including making metal spawn ore rates for Tinkers Construct a lot lower as it was way too easy to get to high end items) so you better start fresh. You can still use your old worlds though. There is however a chance of about 20% that you will crash while converting an SSP world. If that happens, just load the game up again and try again.

Here is the download link which we will also put into the main thread above together with the new permission info:
http://gamemakerworl...1.4.0_1.5.1.zip

Also check out the now-public test server! It will automatically be in your server list and you can creative-mode test in there Posted Image

I am now praying this works with magic launcher. I fail at modding any other way. If not, it still looks good! =D
EDIT: nvm, just noticed what the MultiMC is. XD
I won't MIND being denied, but I won't be like 'whatever', so go ahead and say the truth to me. =D May/may not have a reaction.

If there is need for it, we can make the pack compatible with multiple launcher types. Our main focus is (for the near future) Feed-The-Beast.com though.

If you need help, just let me know :)

A patch fixing the issue with SSP NPC editing and SMP non-OPs being unable to edit NPCs as well has just been released. The main version is now at 1.4.1. To those using 1.4.0 - the patch is only 1KB in size and you just need to unpack it in your instances folder to apply the fix. Only the Custom NPCs config is overwritten. You can also apply the fix on your client and server manually by changing the following setting:

CustomNpcs.cfg
...
#Only ops can create and edit npcs
OpsOnly=false
...

If you don't mind, I would like to make a few suggestions. (You better use some of these. I had to type this twice!)

Like I said, I had to write this twice, so I may have forgot some stuff. I will edit later, with more stuff, but I thought I would give you some mods that you could use. You know, Mod Packer to Mod Packer.

@dragon: Thanks a lot for the feedback, I appreciate it very much. I will go over each of these mods and check with the others whether or not we want to add them. Getting close to the time when we apply for FTB modpack, this is really a great help.

@all: We just added added two new mods for the upcoming 1.5.0 (currently alpha state):

Father Toast's Special Mobs Mod:
http://www.minecraft...-lava-monsters/

Davidee's Ingame NBT Edit Mod:
http://www.minecraft...r-game-updated/

The mobs mod uses creative variations of the normal MC mods with varying skills and effects. It will replace our other mob mods as those didn't update properly and also make too much of a change to the game so this gem is a great way of staying true to our "better vanilla" philosophy. Thanks to the mob author for giving us permission to use this.

On the other hand the NBT mod makes the pack a great starting point for any adventure map maker. They can just spawn in mobs or villagers and then edit their custom names, trades, invulnerability,... Server admins can also use this nifty tool to edit players, giving them more health, fixing issues inside character files that would otherwise usually get players reset and checking player inventory. The possibilities are near infinite. Respect to the mod author for making this freely available.

Why don't you conform to the Hive Mind. You know you want to: http://www.minecraft...ter-since-2012/
If this takes off, it could become the next big thing. I will definitely keep an eye on it as it matures.

Quote

And speaking of hives, there's a dimension full of them, that you could use: http://www.minecraft...ant-arthropods/
We are already waiting for that one to get all its dungeon types finished.

Quote

Pffft. Who needs sunlight, when you got caves. But how can you survive in a cave, *points at mod*: http://www.minecraft...tivecraft-v142/
Not really what we are looking for.

Quote

Don't you hate the vanilla bed? Well why not make some person tweaks to it: http://www.minecraft...eds-yay-now-20/
I posted in the thread as the mod author seems rather new to modding and the info in the thread is a little unsettling ("how can I remove this thread? my mod doesn't work" kind of thing).

Quote

We all love secret rooms and hidden chambers, but how do we hide them, without being obvious? We use this: http://www.minecraft...-april-14-2013/
The author just "made his first mod" which could mean it dies just as fast. Also, we are still hoping to get Secret Rooms.

Quote

With simple additions that really brighten up your world, why not add something like this: http://www.minecraft...-update-part-2/
We already use Better World Plants & Food mod by WiNeTel which has the same features and more afaik.

Quote

Alchemy is pretty cool in Minecraft ,but we don't really have much to show for it. That is until now: http://www.minecraft...re-potions-mod/
Some of the extra effects are already added by other mods we have or want to have and the overlap could also cause trouble.

Quote

Caves can be pretty boring. Why not make them more cave-like with this: http://www.minecraft...ldcaves-3-v042/
We did check out that mod when it just came out and decided to wait if it was updated. Seems like it is now and I hadn't even put it in my folder for re-checking. Thanks for pointing me in that direction again. I will ask the modmaker for permission now.

Quote

With Minecraft mods, people will make plants, but they never make them compatible with Flower Pots. Why not change that with one that works with virtually all of them: http://www.minecraft...lower-pot-v155/
There is a recipe conflict with Better World P&F so we can't use this.

Quote

There is so much hacking and slashing in Minecraft. There is no intellectual side to it, that doesn't involve some sort of complex redstone machine. So why not use a mod that adds in a fun game to play between friends, but also a dungeon that requires you to battle wits, rather than with your blade: http://www.minecraft...psmp-minechess/
Mods like that don't fit our theme. They are great to have but not if your modpack is about "making vanilla better without making it another game". Do you have it in your pack? It could fit there I guess considering you have a wide range of different types of mods.

Quote

A person can't just survive on food. They need liquid to hydrate them, as well. Besides, it's a survival game, so why wouldn't you add a realistic survival aspect: http://www.minecraft...st-mod-updated/
The idea is great but the execution isn't really what I am looking for. The API to integrate existing liquids is not very mod-friendly and can even mess up their items and textures (I tried). If I can find another mod implementing the mechanic in a cleaner and simpler way (like having to stand in water or drink water bottles like Terrafirmacraft), it would be great though.

Your effort wasn't in vain - I really hope we get the Wildcaves 3 mod and the rest also gave me a bunch of useful ideas to discuss with the others. So thanks again, and if you have any kind of ideas please don't hesitate to post them. In turn, I will also try to help you out if you are interested in feedback on matters pertaining to your modpack or some other project of yours. You also seem like a very interesting person to discuss with (referring to the little exchange on the Custom NPCs thread here), so I'd be happy to hear from you again Posted Image

Glad you like my suggestions and I would love to have someone give their feedback, while I'm giving them mine. Fun! I'll happily give my suggestions, and when see mods I'll keep you in mind, definitely.

In fact... I was looking for good bow mod for my Mod Pack and I was about to settle on More Bows http://www.minecraft...2more-bows-mod/.

That was until I found this, which I thought was many times better http://www.minecraft...s-quivers-more/.

I don't think it is legal for me to post a package that includes bukkit, vanilla server or MCPC is it? Just wondering because I didn't find conclusive results when researching it.
I will be glad to help you get a server set up for 1.5.2 though using MCPC or vanilla (depending on whether or not you need bukkit support) and I will definitely be making detailed tutorials (probably with video since I have a little youtube channel) once the modpack for 1.5.2 is out of alpha. I have done loads of testing to make it stable but I need to wait for Custom NPCs mod to be SMP-compatible again. Also would love to have those "Wildcaves" in as well that dragon proposed to add (answer from author pending).

I like those bows, but I know that Tinker's Construct (which is in the pack) is about to get a really nice bow update. Armor as well. If that falls short of expectations (I did see some of them in action on Forgecraft though and looked pretty fancy), I will consider Better bows mod. Thanks for the idea Posted Image
