In theory the only way I know to place a seeded map into a multiplayer world would be to go to single player, create a world, transfer to the server, host. Otherwise, I don't know how to help, sorry. :(

No, you don't understand. I don't want to put my world on Multiplayer, I want to find the SEED. The seed you type into the box when you generate a new level in 1.3.

you don't use a seed for moving worlds . seeds are more like the way you want your world to be. to move a single player world to multiplayer you:
1. Find your saved world.
2. Move your saved world file to your folder which contains the start-up page.( if you just have the start up page make a folder move your start up page to the new folder along with your saved world to the new world.)
3. Find your server properties page and change the world name accordingly.(example level name=world5 or what ever world it may be)
4. You MIGHT have to move your server properties page into your start up folder too
5. I AM CURRENTLY RUNNING MAC OSX SO IT MIGHT BE SLIGHTLY DIFFERNT FOR YOU

Why is it you are looking for the seed, and do you understand what it is?

I see, you mean to find the seed number of a world already generated. There was a few threads like that in the discussions section, not support as much. Try making a new map based on a seed number. Open the map file and search for the number that you entered for seeding. Worth a shot.

I think he does, i think he just wants to take a world that he liked and use it again, without transfering the world.

Correct me if I'm wrong, The seed is a random "code" that is usually made when you click "Create world" The map generator uses this to create your world. By typing one in, you are basically telling the generator what to generate. So sharing your seed will allow others to generate a map that is very similar to your. I realise that it will not generate blocks that are not normally generated. When you change you world, you seed will stay the same, right?

I made a world, typed in a seed, and had no luck of finding it in any of the world files :)

Wonder if it's one of the values displayed when you press F3?

The seed ifs not for finding it is how your world will generate I tested it for the last six hours and found the going north for three hours in to two world with the seen as 2 it will be the same no matter how I get to a spot (via walking or by taking the nether) it will look the same no matter what. I don't know if the seed is used for a sever if you copy the files that will be my friends and my next test.

Another test we tried was typing in water, tree, forest, mountain, ocean, desert, snow, and other words they uselly come up with the same map.

Food for thought if you randomly seed a map you love save it I can't tell you how many deep ocean maps I've had in older vers and wished I saved them.

A seed i think is something that you type in for what kinda world you want, i tried typing in "mountain" but it didn't give me any mountains, then i saw someone said they put in "333333333333333333333333333" for there world and got a huge ocean. I tried that and i got a pretty big ocean. Maybe like the mountain worlds, flat planes, oceans, snow, and dessert world all have there own number?

The word, or number you put into a world seed doesn't matter, snow, water, desert, grass, forest, it doesnt matter. the value entered for the seed starts off the map generators algorithm and works its way off of that. it creates many chunks before you see the algorithm repeat its self. if you do not enter a value into the seed, the game will use your current computer clock to generate the seed.

The reasoning for an algorithm working off your seed is because programmers have trouble creating something that is actually random, so instead they use algorithms. The map will generate off of this algorithm but eventually leads back to it. The terrain in minecraft may seem random but in fact it's just an illusion. (a previous poster stated that after walking 3 hours in a direction, the world repeats itself)
