I have an HDTV but I use the red/white/yellow cable that comes with the Xbox to play minecraft. Do I have to get the HDMI cord to play splitscreen?

HDMI or Component. (Green, Blue, Red, White) You need to be playing in HD.

Yeah, you definately need an HDMI cable if you have an HDTV. That or, as Poetic said, component cables. You can get an HDMI cable on Amazon dirt cheap and if you've been playing any Xbox games on the old style cables, seeing it in real HD will be like seeing a next gen system by comparison.

don't most 360's come with one bundled in? (mine did, but that may have been because it was a special game edition one, FF13.)

You could also use a VGA cable (for computer monitors) with the red and white sound hook ups or a Dvi to HDMI cord too.

They actually don't. Yours must have been because of the special edition. I find it funny that an HD console doesn't ship with HD cords.

Just to clarify please;

I can use a VGA computer type monitor cable from XBOX to HDTV and use regular red/white component cables for the sound?

If that works only problem for us is disconnecting each time we go back to using computer for tv :)
