This idea came to me after someone suggested that the Armor section of the HUD be removed for something else. Some people did not like the idea, and I was one of them It has it's uses, like knowing how much armor you have without opening the inventory. But then I thought, why couldn't it be better?
This relatively minor tweak would show you exactly what kind of armor you have on, and how many armor points each item gives you. The armor is set up on the HUD in this order: Helmet, Chestplate, Leggings, Boots, Empty. I even took the liberty of making icons for each individual armor piece:
So if you were wearing an Iron Helmet, Diamond Chestplate, Gold Leggings, and Iron Boots, instead of your HUD looking like this:
It looks like this:
That way you have immediate knowledge of what armor you are wearing and how much it protects you. Keep in mind that is some very rudimentary Photoshop for the after image, because I did this in class and didn't have access to my Minecraft files.
The only problem with the idea as it stands is in full Diamond Gear. Full Diamond protects you all 20 Armor Points, but with my system it would take 11 Armor icons to display it properly. I'm looking for a good solution for this, but I would like your input.

Hmm... thats certainly an interesting idea. Don't know if its better than before, but I think this would be cool. Half support.
I think it would be slightly more convenient, to at least not have to check your inventory to see if you switched to that Diamond Armor. Now that I think about it, it could even give the Enchantment "sheen" over your armor points if that particular armor is Enchanted.

Sounds very practical, but it looks a bit funky. I'm sure they could smooth out the interface, though.
Yeah that was mostly my bad photoshop. I made the sprites myself. but I didn't have my jar file so I couldn't get them in game at the correct sizes and had to scale them manually. Photoshop tries to smooth out scaled images with anti-aliasing and it kind of ruins pixel art. It would look better in game.

Pretty Impressive, though, my sprites are pieces of crap.

Pointing out fallacies to undermine an argument is also a fallacy...
I like the idea, but for people that don't like this, maybe it could be a option?it would also be cool if a little icon came above
enchanted amour, so you know that you, for example, your wearing your aqua infinity helmet. full support
Oh, when I saw the icons I was hoping that there would only be 4 armor icons, one for each slot, and the full or half icons would just show durability, letting you know when repairs need to be done to avoid it breaking.
P.S. Then obviously just use the original person's idea to just keep total armor rating on the inventory screen.
It's interesting. Before it's implemented I'm sure Mojang would clean it up visually if they did add this. So the idea is more important than the looks. In my opinion. I kind of dig this. Would make keeping track of your armor durability easier with out having to keep track of what pieces fill what number of icons like you do now.

Humanity is the creation of Logic and Emotion, Calculation and Imagination, Cold Analysis and Blind Faith. This is why I believe it is a strange Human that would prize one while shunning the other. For a calculator can do math just as well as you, but a calculator can not use math to make the world a better place.

Yeah.... Idea sounds good, really depends on the graphics.
