I have been thinking of how such big servers take competition. I am starting to think there are too many big servers and it is much harder to run a small one. For example, my server has been running for 2 months now and no one sees the forums. PMC can always get people on...for a while. Then the people on decide, "Oh the big servers are cooler because they have more people," then sadly leave. I feel like there should be an equal right to succeed. I'm going to start a new idea. On my server, if it ever gets big, I'm going to charge $2 to advertise someone's server. They have to prove they are the owner, then they will be accepted. I think it will allow small servers to get a chance. It's not pretty fair on the forums. I'll give you an example. Look up 'prison' in the forums search bar. Only the very popular show up, you will NEVER see mine. It's pretty hard to get your name out there, I wish the Minecraft Forums could put a "small servers" section, where if you have a certain amount of players and slots, you can be approved to post your server on the list. It's just an idea, I hope I can get some feedback.

UPDATE: The Forum staff had said to a thread similar to this that says it would be too hard for them to moderate the big and small servers. They said they are fixing tags to help the small servers out. I still want more than that. I'm not giving up! Hopefully some of you won't either
you know, welcome to competition... one of the basic elements of capitalism.
Yes there are servers out there that over shadow the little guy.... so the little guy has to try that much harder, be that much more innovative and in the end you get a better product
Very true guys. I'm just hoping for a way to make the small servers have a chance. There are so many servers who don't have a chance, and I feel they have such potential.

Never let anyone tell you this lie.

Every project and every person has a chance to be great, the starting conditions may be different, but that never removes the chance. Effort and innovation is what makes greatness, not what you started with or what the other guy has!

I agree, I actually think that the forums need to have a place for showcasing servers BASED on size, it would be great, I run a few servers and One is huge but the other ones are small and it takes awhile to get new people.

Yeah. I was thinking that maybe you could qualify for a small server thread if your servers is limited to a certain size. You can get validated and then be able to put your server there. It would get a lot more people on the server and would limit the traffic of new threads in the basic server section.
Yeah, but I'm not a high rank in the Forums World. I just hope they read this and maybe make an idea out of it. I wish everyone could have potential to have a descent sized server.
Same thing here, unless I'm looking for an objective server like TDM or CTF.
I know a lot of others who just hate big servers too, but it could just be a problem with your server sometimes.
I don't hate big servers, I respect them. They probably worked their butts off to go from a small little server, to a colossal Mega Server. I just hope it can be easier to find the little servers and play on them. A place where small servers have more of a chance, because almost all of them have great potential to get big and I don't want them to give up and stop paying.

I've been on some bigger servers that weren't bad, but I was invited because I knew someone who knew the owner. Otherwise, most of them have PVP enabled and people just sit at spawn killing everyone who walks out of the spawn building, or they have ridiculous rules implemented to control a large base of players. Sorry, but I like my freedom and I can be trusted with it xD

That's why little servers are more fun in my opinion, so if the server gets popular, you are the most dominant one!

I only liked one big server. It was because it actually had a good community and I actually somehow got to know the 40-50 people on it. I hate bigger servers mostly because of the community, and the staff.

Same. The servers are usually corrupted somehow too. No matter how good you are, the donators are always "God"
I agree. Some servers take over the forums and don't give other smaller servers a chance.
Thanks. I feel like this issue COULD be resolved. I'm still trying to figure out how with making it challenging enough so only the people who try hard enough can qualify.
A problem with a "Small" subsection is that big servers would just go and advertise on there anyway. The would just keep making accounts and flood the page. If a restriction was in place it could be very hard to tell if a server is "big" or small. Servers population can vary greatly by time of day so a server can have 5 people on at night and 50 people on during the day and they would qualify for the small section.
