Now because we play on xbox nothing seems to be for sure about this.
I usually use a slime finder app on my phone, it has always worked up until now. Does the TU8 have anything to do with this? and another question, a lot of people tell me using dirt on the walls helps, but I don't get why it would. Any info would be great. Thanks!

I believe that slimes spawn below Y40 now. I've seen some bobbing about in caves at around Y36.

Anyone heard this anywhere else, or is this the only report?
Also I might add that it is extremely unlikely, but I've let slimes follow me to the surface before, so it would more than likely be possible if a route exists they could travel up from spawn level to there. Not saying that's what happened just a possibility.

For anyone who does look at this, I toyed around with different things for about 2 hours on different worlds. It seems that the issue is the mob limit within a certain area, I found what I had to do was go to the surface on that chunk and light the living crap out of it, and kill any mobs there, then returned to find slimes... this worked multiple times! I have 64 + 27 slime balls in a hour!

They changed the slime spawn to y40 and below in 1.8.2, so it has been like that for at least a couple months...

Yeah, sorry, should have mentioned that as well. Lol

Is it true that they'll spawn in swamps in a later update? Sure I heard that somewhere.

it is unclear that we will get this or not.... As it came out I think in either 1.3.2 or 1.4 pc version. We are stopping at 1.2.3, and that is when 4J and mojang are going to have a talk. xbox is going their own way, but we may see a few things still from the pc version, at least things that are feasible to see. Nothing is a guarantee though. We can only hope. :D

How do slimes even hurt you? They just bump into you. It's like being gently shoved to death. The only mob that makes absolutely no sense.

I am still confused on this fact for one reason, I remember doing slime research awhile back, and because xbox's maps are smaller by a fraction, the slime chunks were originally smaller. I'm not trying to make it difficult, but was it in any patch details that they made the Y level higher?

unfortunately not. The only reason I actually know about the y level thing, is a couple posts long ago that was sometime after that update all about the slimes and such not spawning enough. and someone ran a test and confirmed the change. So people have mentioned you must now clear the caves up to y40 now since then.

Like I said it was community post that was made a long time ago doing some looking into the matter at the time. Don't remember what it was called or anything just the context roughly. Also I thing it was some how sited in a tweet from 4J as well, but also like the post I couldn't for the life of me find something like that again, since I was not the one who originally made or found these things. I've only confirmed it for myself 1 time, and that is all I need to be convinced.:D

I'm going to see if I can catch a slime up that high and get a picture for confirmation. I'll post if I come up with anything!

My favorite way to get slimes is through exploring existing caves.  eventually you will see one.  i mark that spot and dig a large open area around that maybe 3 high and 40 by 40 or larger.  then light up everything around there including other caves so other mobs will not spawn that increases the chance of slime spawning

u could use a water elevator to bring small slimes to the surface
Minecrafters wanted: 18+, 100% survival hard, no griefing, no duplications, no x-ray glitches, enviromentally friendly (cut a tree plant a tree), no unwarranted terrain modification (no open pit mines, destroying biomes, etc.)  player versus player only preagreed or to defend property.

I personally used a slime chunk finder, dug out a HUGE area something like about 128x128 around the slime area, completely up to the surface -5 blocks, so i have basically 5 blocks and then a fall to bedrock if you dig there.

Once i finished this I marked out the 3 slime chunks and built 3 spawn pads for them to spawn on, which is nothing more then some stone brick, , then i stacked a second layer exactly 5 blocks up with the 4th being my light which i used glowstone.  I encased the area with glass and glassed all of bedrock in the 128x128 area.

Next i signs on the 2nd level to slow thier decent to the first, and watered it completely.  Then i used a 3x3 water canal system and pushed the slimes into the first chamber which more or less lets anything smaller then 3x3 fall through, if its a 3x3 it crushes it, and it breaks down into a couple of 2x2 slimes and falls through the floor into another water stream which takes it to the 2x2 processing system where again its crushed until i have only 1x1 slimes.

Using water streams yet again i traverse these about 50 blocks or so and have a ladder that leads up to a drowning chamber and collection area within my house.  I get a double chest full of slimes in about 2 hours.  I have a leaver at my house which lets me 'flood' the spawn pads so i can more or less turn slime farm on and off.

My slime spawner room is honestly one of the most dangerous places. There's dozens at once If I get caught coming down the ladder there's no making it out alive. I have to thin out the crowd and then run to a corner structure that protects me from the onslaught.

@ OP, It is y40 and below now for slimes. I tested this after release of tu8 by using a slime chunk finder and making my pads at y37.

@overclocked try expanding your room a little and puuting in a water trench around the sides, slimes seem attracted to the water and it would make you entrance/exit from the room much easier

edit; water channel needs to be 3 wide and 2 deep
