Uploading texture packs to the Curse Client hasn't always been the easiest process, and we have listened to your feedback!  Now, uploading your texture pack - regardless of version or size - is super easy.  How do you do it?

Upload Steps
______________________

  • Visit the Upload Page
  • Enter your pack information in the boxes provided, select the version
  • Hit "Submit"
  • ...wait, that's it?

Yep, that's it.  This is the only screen you will ever see to upload!

Earlier today, we mentioned that we are now running a Rewards Program for content-makers, which now includes texture pack artists!  Get 1,000 or more downloads on your texture pack, and you can start cashing in (literally), or get yourself some Amazon gift cards as fast as you can click a button.  Finally, some cash for your hard work!

Keep an eye out for additional supported content in the near future.  We don't want to blow the surprise just yet, but suffice it to say that many more types of custom user content will be supported in the near future!

Its all marketing, but it is nice to make money off your own content. The money probably comes from the same source as the one Youtube uses: advertising.

I'm guessing the "supprise" addition in the future will be mods.

Goodbye...

have tested several browsers, I renamed the zip file and the name of the package and it did not work. I'm having trouble uploading, always displays the message:  Error
Sorry, an error occurred while processing your request.

What they meant to say, is that minecraftforum is not a trusted place for uploading texture packs, if I understand correctly.

No, I believe what they are implying is that Mediafire, Rapidshare, Megaupload, and such are not trusted places. Me, I say if it ain't broke don't fix it.

This seems like curse wants to make money from the digital authors' works and present it as some kind of good deed. Definitely a no to this whole curse launcher/texturepack thing.

How much do u get per 1 download and how much points can you reedem for how much money/giftcards cash/etc.
Quote from the reward system:
"Points are calculated magically. Actually, it's based off of popularity of the addon via installs with the Curse Client v5, as well as downloads from Curse.com".
This is imo a little too unspecified.

I have been reading through some of the comments and why shouldn't mediafire/rapidshare/and this forum be insecure sites for uploading and presenting your texture packs on? Actually uploading them on their launcher/site whatever isn't much of a big difference i still have to reupload my texture packs everytime there was an update. Imo they just want to illustrate other methods of uploading the texture pack falsely as insecure to convince people to actually use their texture pack uploading system.

Me for example i host my texture packs privately on our root with a clever syncing strategy, that means when my texture pack has been edited/updated it automatically ONLY uploads changes so i don't have to reupload 300mb+ everytime (not everyone has a good internet connection). I can't effort to switch to these old fashioned 1 click hosting methods. If more people are against this whole curse client thing i am willing to distribute my syncing method Posted Image. Wait a sec am i blackmailing now? hahaha

Additionally some texture pack artists earn alot of money from donations so if this whole curse project gets overhyped (like everything else related to minecraft) im pretty sure texture pack artists are going to earn alot lot less than before, simply because the old way of supporting the artists will be burried in oblivion.

So a big big NO to this whole curse thing.

unfortunately, texture packs are pointless... they never update for the snapshots, and when there is a release, they take weeks to update, and by the time they do, there's been a couple more snapshots....

so how about easing back on all this stuff, and concentrating on the persistant and annoying bugs that you STILL haven't bothered to fix?? Now everything drops into the ground, and when I make a new game, I always spawn underground, and have to dig out before I die.

Heads out of butts please.

That may be the case for most texture packs, but in fairness there has never been any incentive to keep the packs snapshot ready. It's not like your paying for them. This new Rewards program might help incentivize authors to work on the Texture Packs.

I think once 1.5.0 comes out the new texture pack format will eliminate many of the headaches of missing textures. It will no longer rely on the terrain.png or items.png, but separate png files so it can easily build default textures for any that the author didn't bother update.

Just hang in there, I bet it will get better after 1.5.0.

If you using Windows make sure you have hidden files visible in folder options. There are probably Thumbs.db files your accidently uploading. If you zip with 7-zip it also will show any hidden files.

OS X has a file similar to Thumbs.db called .DS_Store. You'll want to make sure to remove all such files from the zip before uploading it. Packaging tools on mac frequently have an option to exclude them when you create the zip as well.
