Something that will automatically break blocks. Maybe with redstone wiring or something

I finally got myself established. After re-planting the tree and being bored trying not to starve,  a good rain came along and it finally grew. I now have 4 trees and a bit of a wheat garden going on. I expanded the second island out a bit to try and spawn some spiders but ended up with skeletons which made good bone meal for the trees and garden.

I'm definitely gonna try this today or tomorrow. although i haven't played survival since summer of 2012...
