Peaceful is nice to have when you get to the point to where you want to build something grand and don't want to have to deal with monsters bothering you.
As for it making the game too easy, food is too plentiful to be a challenge, and I can have the same effect by placing a ton of torches around while I build. In a nutshell, peaceful is a time saver.
That being said, I'm glad I started out on hard. Once you get experienced, then difficulty doesn't really matter anymore.
I think it's fair. New players get a chance to figure out how to make stuff before being offed by a creeper or skellie. I use it when I'm building, but when I'm adventuring out I turn the difficulty back to normal. It's especially useful when you decide to do a complete remodel on your house, which I'm working on the second one in as many days. I would agree that hunger should still deplete on it though.
It is fair to have peaceful. I have a massive world where I do all my redstone and farms on survival so I can do it on normal in another world. Also, if you are making a castle or something, it would not be fun to have to replace the doors and fix holes from creepers.

Peaceful mode is for people who dislike the idea of monsters and like minecraft for their building purposes but, see creative mode as a cheap way out. What's the point of building something if you merely spawned in the objects? You would feel more of a connections if you build it from blocks you earned. Also, Roleplaying servers that don't like the idea of monsters in a medival setting.
I think that peaceful mode is unfair as your taking a part of the soul of minecraft without it, it don't feel right even though mobs may be difficult at times they are entertaining to see and make the game more challenging. Peaceful mode should be removed personally.

Peaceful mode should not be removed, or changed in any form. Peaceful is somehting i use when i want to Test (IE switching back and forth to see differences), when i want to build with the things i gathered with easy on, or when i want to do a variety a things. Peaceful is one of the backbones of minecraft. The reason I don't play terraria any more is because I got tired of getting hit by monsters, when all i wanted to do was build. It was annoying.
Why, discussing fairness is virtually as useful and pertinent as discussing beauty, or beliefs, isn't it? There is no answer to such question. No definite, universal answer, that is.
Personally, I opted, since I first played Minecraft, to not ever, under no circumstance, switch to peaceful mode. That is solely due to the fact that if I ever change to peaceful, I believe that the sense of achievement I get upon completing tasks I set to myself would diminish considerably. That has nothing to do with being just or not, though.
But that is just me and my personal opinion. I do believe that having this difficulty as an option proves to be pretty important to lots of players.
Minecraft is a sandbox game. I play my survival world on hard mode all the time. But I play my peaceful world, where I build epic stuff in survival, I use peaceful mode all the time. Minecraft's biggest specialty: A game with no limits.
i like not having to use all of my supplies and not worrying about my villagers being killed(I only have 3 after the move from the village to their new cave with mushroom homes). I have lots of food, but i feel like i use more than i get, so I will eventually run out.

I'm not bothered by its presence. However, as has been saud by others before, I'm not a big fan of the lack of hunger. I also think that using it to get out of a sticky situation is abuse of the feature. If the behavior changed so that new mobs did not spawn, but existing mobs have to be dealt with, would solve that. In survival, that is. Creative behavior shouldn't change.
Peaceful mode IS fair.
Some people like more the building side of game without opening a inventory and getting what you want.
Sometimes I like peaceful.
Alright, so here is the deal, I want to know if anybody else thinks what I think. What I think is, isn't Survival Mode in peaceful just like creative mode in a way. I mean, you still have to get your supplies, but the only thing that can hurt you is falling too far, and that is really hard to do. And, no Creepers or zombies, or even skellie archers can get you! That is like, half the fun, watching your back and stuff. Without that, it is actually really boring.
Peaceful mode is for the people that like to gather their recources themselves, and it is fair, you don't have to play on it.
Well as some have stated peaceful mode is a good way to learn the game when ur new to it. I did use peaceful my self the first few nights just to get a hold of the game before i added all the rest.
Now days i never use peaceful only normal or hard.
But peaceful can be looked at as sort of a tutorial mode or something like that. Atleast many players use it as that.
1. I use peaceful for building worlds, sometimes I just don't want to be disturbed.
2. In the beginning you should start with peaceful and learn how to survive before running though caves killing hoards of mobs, living a luxurious house. I just don't happen, you need to get used to the game first.
