Hey guys, I've been playing games for a while, when I noticed that my Asus Radeon HD 7870 normally plays on about ~1100 MHz on Chivalry, Crysis, etc., but on Minecraft, it lowers to 350MHz, probably because it doesn't recognize it as a game, and I get ~50FPS. I know Optifine is an option, but I'm looking to improve it in general.

What do you mean by this? All I know is the 3D application profiles, but all it changes is AA, Tesselation, stuff like that. Don't know how to set it to high.

Well, I meant simply set up the profiles to make your card think it needs to work for Minecraft.

Also, try playing in fullscreen?

Sorry, I meant how do you do that specifically?

Hit the Save button, then navigate to where you have your java.exe and javaw.exe saved and save a profile for each of those.

Well, something happened. Fullscreen doesn't affect anything, but now I'm getting ~100, probably by editing java.exe.

Do you have Vsync turned on or off? Advanced OpenGL?

Yes, I saved both, and I don't know what you mean by the second part, do I go to the 3D profiles?

When you hit the save button, you're saving an application profile of the settings there to the exe specified.

Have you tried turning them both on and off, and seeing what happens?

You post faster than i do lol. Do you mean use as current setting? How do I turn them off? Sorry, there's not any buttons that make it more obvious for me.
And about the last pic, i still get the same MHz, but more FPS.

Oh, I think you meant Vsync and OpenGL...

I did, sorry about that.

There's no point in making your graphics card work harder than it needs to if you're already getting 60+ fps.

Yeah, but I play with some mods and it does lag quite a bit sometimes. Tried OpenGL, worse framerate, Vsync will set me to a constant 60, so no point in that. Also, what's the difference between the Apply and the Save buttons? Can't really tell.

Why would you not set to a constant 60 fps?

Lag from other mods may be created from things other than your video card. Processor, running low on RAM, etc. What mods??

Well it's the FTB Mod pack, so Buildcraft, IC2, Thaumcraft, Extrabiomes, RedPower, Portal Gun.
Well, what's the point of having 60fps if you can get more? And you can turn it on from inside MC anyways.

Because your monitor can't display more than 60 fps.

I noticed I ran out of memory quite often in FTB, though I'm an extremely expansive builder with huge contraptions spanning multiple worlds. xD Try having 4 quarries running simultaneously with the necessary processing center. Needed 17 recyclers without overclockers.

Lol
I'm having around 50FPS in FTB, maybe applying more RAM in the launcher?

Check your RAM usage in game. Also, try playing with the settings. Change to high performance instead of power saver, etc. Install Optifine.

FTB is amazing.

Anyway, OP, I've had the same issue many times with my 6870. Try in fullscreen as previously mentioned, and set up profiles. Also try updating to Catalyst 13.1 if you haven't already.

Because Minecraft's "VSync" isn't true v-sync, it just caps at 60FPS and doesn't know how to stabilize...
