As my first post to MinecraftForum, I would just like to say hello all, I am AFenstermaker.

This is my first build, Originally I had a small castle on my spawn point that I used to get started and learn to play the game; however I soon demolished and replaced it with another structure once I got the hang of things, and the ambition to start a bigger project. I used no commands, or mods, just lots and lots of time. Feel free to post comments, criticisms, suggestions, or advice. It would be much appreciated as I am relatively new to Minecraft, and the MinecraftForum Community.

Note: As a whole this build is relatively unfinished, I no longer have the time or patience to put towards mass gathering of materials, so I have started a new world and begun experimentation with SPC/WorldEdit. I will post my first creation with SPC in a later post. And yes, everything was done in Survival, without mods/commands ( with the exception of spawning a few extra villagers when I downloaded SPC, I just needed a few more;) )

I quite like it. My only suggestion would be to search for a texture pack. The basic art is hard to look at, at least for me.

Thanks, I've always been interested in getting a few texture packs just never got around to following through. Any suggestions? I've always been a fan of some of the realism mods just wondered how badly they would affect my frame rate.

Wow. That is an awesome build. I would love to see the mine where you dug out all the materials for this!

I have two mine shafts, the first is through an iron door in my underwater room. The second is accessible from a railway beginning in the lower level of the main tower; it travels a considerable distance to the nearest mountain biome, that way I could get some emeralds to trade with the villagers I kidnapped via minecart from the nearest village.

Though it is difficult to tell from the pictures, these 7 tunnels in the first mine extend several minutes walking distance, and branch every 3 blocks, each branch another several minutes long. This is the smaller of the two, however, being my first I was still learning the do's and don'ts of shaft mining. For example, mining straight down sometimes drops you in to a nice pool of lava burning me and and a full inventory to a crisp...

Mineshaft 02:

This is the mine connected to my fortress by minecart, I get to/from and up/down via powered rail rather than a tedious spiral staircase. This one is much larger, by this time I had a surplus of enchanted diamond pickaxes and proficiency in shaft mining know-how. It is one long tunnel with branches on both sides every 3 blocks, several minutes long. I would tunnel until I had exited the mountains, then mine over 3 blocks and go back. This was usually enough to fill my inventory

Your powered rails are too close together. Space them 32m apart, and you wont notice the difference, except for having more rails.

It's nice and spacious. Good for you. A little too "bulky" for me (I prefer smaller builds) but impressive and neatly done. Especially for a rookie Posted Image

Good job.
