Multiple mods of mine are included and redistribution is EXPLICITELY denied in the readme included in the mod downloads.  Thread reported.  Permission to distribute was never requested

OK seems you got them from a location that didnt have the readme. Still its always best to ask permission _first_ when distributing someone elses work when that work is not abandoned.  You did get around to getting permission from most people in the pak and you did ask me so I'll allow you to include whichever of my mods you want as long as you use a download service that exposes the download counts.

Register a project at code.google.com and upload it into your newly create 'downloads' section of the project and every time someone downloads the file the information is auto updated and is publically available.

I just downloaded and I get to the updating minecraft screen... and it just stops. notcrashes, no black screen. It just stops  a sliver away from finishing. should I try deleting the META-INF file?
it does this wheather or not I am connected to the internet.
(nevermind, deleting meta-inf didn't help.)

Seronis has a good point about being polite to ask permission for use.
I'm not sure modders have legal rights to the mods, the original code belongs to Notch after all, but I prefer not to trample the 'social' contract of common politeness.
So, AMCO links will be down for a few days while that gets ironed out.

Sorry to hear of your troble UltraNerd, the 'Restore' procedure is working for you in the mean time I hope.

The original code belongs to notch, however Java as a language and the things we create with it are entirely ours, but just as notch's code is easy to get/decompile, ours is too.

Planned out well, permissions fail :/

As Seronis pointed out, I don't think you got Bucyruss' permission to include his mod in your mod package given no one has heard from him since mid-December. Moreover, I'm going to guess that you included the last version of the mod produced by him, which has been outdated since... mid-December. If you have, you've just screwed anyone who downloads your mod package and attempts to use the BTM included in there from Bucyruss' thread. R-T-B has picked up in another thread where Bucyruss stopped; he's trying to keep the mod going and updated. Permission to distribute the mod in this case might be a little tricky given it's originally Bucyruss' mod but R-T-B has added to and modified it. I leave it to the two of you to figure out whether adding R-T-B's continued BTM to your mod package is appropriate.

Did not give permission for my Biomecave (ice and sand caves) mod to be in there.

While I would of let you put it in if you just asked before you put it in, Just putting it in and not even attempting to notify me is downright despicable.

Furthermore, all of my mod except for jn.class is made by me and just_dont, so you can just be quiet about "not having the right to our own mods" Do people who make programs on windows no have the right's to their own programs? I think they do! It's exactly the same thing.

He has now addressed the issues, these no longer apply and I have given him permission now.
I make mods, me.

UltraNerd (and others),
I get also problems with getting a fresh copy of Minecraft (a black screen just before completion) when trying to install from behind a firewall.
To get around the problem I log on to minecraft.net and click Play in Browser.
http://www.minecraft.net/game/
That also forces a fresh installation of the game (if it does not find the .minecraft folder)

Termit,
ModTracker.xlsl is a Windows Excel file.  If you have Excel it should automatically when ModTracker is opened.
ModTracker.xlsl is the Credits/ReadMe for AMCO.  Inside are links to all websights for the individual mods.

DRoseDAR,
You have a very good point.  In many cases trackign down the mod's author to ask permission is difficult.  Buyruss's is the original author of 'Terrain and Biome' mod, which is awesome.  He has disapeared and R-T-B is now effectivly the owner.  I am using R-T-B's latest update, who has been contacted for permission.

Dear Hogofwar and all the other hard-working modders out there,

Everyone please relax and accept my appologies.
No more mods are being redistributed without permission.
I am new to posting stuff on the web and made an oversight about being polite about permisstions.
It did not occurr to me that not everyone would want spontanious growth/redistrabution of thier work.
So, we need to back up and start again right, AMCO links are down for a few days untill that gets sorted out.
Getting permission for 70+ mods is truning out to be almost as much work as getting them all running.

The leagal-smeagal discussion for redistribution of hacks/mods is interesting, but I don't what this topic to be about that.
I prefer to take the high ground, not offend, learn and abide by the rules of the unwritten 'social' contracts about modding.

Thanks
Arrrg

Anyway, the ModTracker thing isn't really updated. It looks like you only included details for mods that you like or something.

"conflicts with 'Minerals' because of the Loc.class file." - Fossils mod
Lol'd. It's the same class, unless Hogofwar hadn't updated Fossils. If so - just use the bigger Loc.class.

Hi Arrrg.

In principle I have no objections to you using some of my textures to form another pack (with due credit), but I am concerned that you may be using the majority of my 'Glimmar's Steampunk' texture pack and not making it clear who the author of that work is, and many will go away thinking you are the creator. Even if you've put credit in the pack in a readme file, etc. I think it's still courtesy to make it clear in your OP where the artwork comes from. Then there's the question of the other contributors to my pack who may also take exception to their work being used elsewhere (I have no control over that). They've given me permission to use their work, but not necessarily given that permission carte blanche to everyone else!

So yes, you have my permission to use 'my' textures with due credit, but I'd rather it wasn't used as a complete pack with a confusion over the provenance of the work. I have no objections if you make it clear in the OP at the top where you got the original artwork from and only if it's not associated with a storm of protests. I've seen many other compilations of mods flamed because of lack of permissions and the fact that, at every Notch update, they instantly become obsolete. That's a massive number of mods you're offering and I think you'll be inundated with folk complaining and requesting help! I hope, for your sake that it will be worth all the effort. :P

Providing I get proper credit in your OP for any of my textures you use (I'd rather you didn't use the complete pack though), I wish you every success, mate. :Notch:

TehKrush,
I love your mods, and would like to include them, but haven't got them working yet.
(An oragne box in ModTracker means I've tried the mod and want to include it, but it conflicts.)
Your mods were not included in OSMS's list as of FEB 7, but they are so good I found them anyway.
(A broken red 'hyperlink' means I found a way to get the mod, but haven't had time to get the link right yet.)

Others,
In the mean time people can put a picture over a door to hide them.
Yes, there created a picture that looks exactly like stone.
It can also be used to hide lighting, like so:

Nekronnuke,
AMCO does contian R-T-B's updated version.  It's an awesome mod with my own adjustments to how terrain is made:  more minerals, floating islands, more waterfalls, deep oceans, and planes still large enough to make having a horse worthwhile.

Shockah,
Thanks for the support and permission to use your excellent 'Minerals', 'Functional Books', and 'More Block IDs' mods.
'Functional Books' is interesting because it allows people to write plots, missions, quests, etc.
I'm currently working on a turorial level called "Outpost Alpha".
Your mod allows the player to start with a "MISSION BRIEFING" book, and Risugami's awesome 'Recipie Book' that shows how to build everything.
I'll also check out the Loc.class file, and give it another shot.
That's assuming I didn't totaly piss off Hogofwar.

Hogofwar,
Sorry, no offence.  I really want to back up and do this right.
I have disabled the links to the compiled files until people can be contacted about proper permissions.
Please see your inbox for a formal request to use your mods.
Hopefull your not too pissed off to consider 'yes'.

Glimmar,
Thank you very much for permission!

Glimmar has very good points.
1)  It is not my intention to claim credit for anyone's work.  I am currently working on how to give proper credit on the front page without making it too cluttered, and to contact everyone and get proper permission.  Staggering.
2)  Writing mods (like Hogofwar) is a lot of work.  Finding and promoting mods (like CreeperDaReeper) is a lot of work.  Editing texture packs (like Glimmar) is a lot of work.  And, gathering all those things up, making them work together, adding some conectivity and finishing touches, and delivering it all in one package (like me) is also a lot of work.
3)  Yes, AMCO will stop working the next tiem MineCraft is updated.  That is why everyone is incoraged to save a vinilla copy (after running the HD patcher).  That way AMCO updates can still happen while mods are converted.  Then the tedious work of figuring out how to get dozzens of new mods all working together while maintaining quality and game balance will beging again.  The value of that work is what I would like to contribute here.
4)  There will be NO DEBUG support for AMCO.  If it works for you, great!  If it doesn't, sorry.  No whining:  problem finders are not welcome.  On the other hand we love problem solvers.  Posts that advise how to get more things working would be great.

@Arrrg: You've downloaded all the mods from CreeperDaReeper's link with all of them in one package? If so - you'll better look into all the linked topics in OSMS to check if modders added some new mods (like I've done :)).

Hemp316,
AMCO is a package including new textures (almost all by Glimmar) and almost 70 mods and all working together (by Shockah, Roundaround, Hogofwar, DrZark and many others).

Shockah,
Yes, I revisit the mod sights every few days.
Thanks for the heads up about your new stuff, very interesting.
Now the unending process of integrating and testing even more mods begins anew. :D

Update to all,
Permissions to use and redistribute all the mods as a package are streaming in.
The overwhelming responce seems to be:  "Yes, please include my mod in AMCO".
Not-suprisingly there hasn't been a single "No, take my stuff out of the top 70 working mods package".

Thanks again to everyone for the encouragement and cooperation.
Arrrg

1 request (not requirement) use  google code for filehosting NOT any crappy file host site.  That way interested people can look at download statistics themselves if they wish.
