Well as the title suggests, Minecraft hits the updating screen, gets to "Done Loading" and freezes.

Do I have to reinstall to fix this, and if I do, will I lose my saved worlds?

"Do I have to reinstall to fix this,"
If it's done loadng, restart Alpha Client.

"and if I do, will I lose my saved worlds?"
Not really, it says 'Done Loading' It will lose your saved worlds if it crashes.

Is minecraft down or something cause it doesn't even seem to work on minecraft.net.  I've tried opening it with explorer, safari, firefox, and chrome and nothing has worked.  I've also downloaded and deleted minecraft so many times and it still doesn't help.  Any other suggestions? I have a mac by the way.

I believe I can help everyone out here if you have the same problem as me.  Simply go to this website .  Open the description and download the file appropriate to your OS.  It worked for me and I hope it works for you! Good luck!

I had the same problem.

I fixed it by:

Deleting the .minecraft folder in my backup folder and in my normal folder.
You might not be able to recover your saves, it depends what you do. I deleted everything i had :)

I hope this helps :)

Im too lazy to read all the posts, so I'm just going to give you the solution I used. It happened about 5 minutes ago... I got the same exact error. I simple exited out of the minecraft.exe then ran it again. Once at the login page I clicked on options>force update>done then logged in. That fixed the problem! Glad to be of some help. Hope it works. :P ha ha ha! I'm editing this post not realizing this topic is almost a year old ha ha ha!

Ok. well time to revive this thread. I have the same problem, and iv found the reason for me. When i install mods it does this. Now of course, using the force update fix removes all my mods. i need a solution that does not reset the minecraft.jar
