[WARNING: WHINE TOPIC]
This didn't really seem to fit in any specific section in 'Servers' so i've put it here since it's discussion.
Is it just me, or is nearly every server just full of idiots? (excluding whitelisted servers)
Particularly prison servers and random survival servers. the survival servers are just griefed to hell and the prison servers, although good, have a lot of jerks in them.
Just as an example:
I was on a prison server earlier (it was Australian so there was only a couple online), and there was just me and this other guy online. I was happily mining away and generally playing the prison server as it should be played. I went to sell my stuff at the shop and when I came back to the mine i noticed a black wool block on the surface, sdo naturally i went and mined it, but when I went to collect it I fell straight down a big abyss about 40 blocks down straight to my death.
When I respawned I obviously hurried to go get my stuff as I had some decent stuff on me, one of which was a diamond sword which is like gold dust on a prison server. Straight away I saw a guy hurrying towards the mine...then it clicked that he had obviously known I was mining there and set a trap to take advantage of my curiosity. Anyway i raced after him in a vain attempt at getting some of my stuff back but he wouldn't give it back, instead he just laughed at me constantly and to add insult to injury went straight to his cell and (probably) stored it straight where I definitely couldn't get it.
Obviously I then raged like hell at him and then rage quit like most other people probably would do. I logged back in a told him " granted it was a smart and sneaky thing to do but also a very sh*tty thing to do"...which i thought it was.
Anyway that's just one example of some of the idiots I meet on my travels.
Am I the only one who notices these people? it seems to be considered cool to be a jackass on the servers nowadays.
Rant over.
P.S: The example story I gave wasn't supposed to be the centre of attention of this post. It's just an example.

Was it against the rules to take advantage of another players lack of judgement? Sounds to me like you were the idiot for falling for such a simplistic trick, no offense I'm sure you were all excited about the black wool block and all that.
Everyone plays differently, he outsmarted you and although it was quite childish to rub it in it was most likely the highlight of his day getting one over on another player in a game.
Instead of raging you should learn from this:
People in online games are most likely not your friend, instead they're rivals and should be treated with caution.
The majority of online gamers are immature and will act so whether it be gloating, trolling or out right rudeness on every occasion possible in order to make themselves feel better at your expense, just look at it as I do, your life is better then theirs and they need the cheap little victories or snide remarks to make it worth living another day. It helps me sleep better at night knowing I don't rage at jackasses or people who get overexcited about a game (noobs, it is just a game after all and til they realise this they're noobs) and instead I'm helping them get through life by simply allowing them to be jackasses.
You can't change people, if they're cheap noobs who require cheap tactics and can't hold a conversation without any semblance of maturity then you need to ask yourself, should you really associate with those people if you think you're better?
Never mine directly below, directly above or directly ahead... Basics of mining right there.
The sooner you accept the facts the more enjoyment you'll get from online gaming, til then avoid non-white listed servers as you'll rule out 90% of idiots that way.

It seems like a douche move on the surface, but it was easily avoidable. If you see a block, like black wool- that you know you didn't place... you should have approached with caution. Obviously there was someone still lurking.
And never dig straight down, ever.
As for idiots, on my server- most players are banned within their first three minutes in-game if they're going to be banned at all. I give them build permissions, and 8 people out of 10 immediately start breaking blocks in spawn, when I, the server owner, am standing right in front of them. It's absolutely confounding. That, and the pool of people who always, upon logging in say nothing but "Can I get op? op me? Can I get creative? Make me admin?". No, you can't be op or have admin- that's a duty reserved for trusted players, who have contributed to the community for a long time- I've known you for literally 3 minutes.
Stupid people...

To me, on my server, it feels like a lot of people just lack awareness of their surroundings. An example: Whenever i build a new place, i first keep these things in mind:
- Is my new project going to affect anybody else's project?
- Will it fit?
- Is it in a unexplored or unmined area?

The example story wasn't supposed to be the centre of attention guys...
But anyways, like i said it was samrt and sneaky, but considering I was the only player online with him and he was considerable higher ranked than me in the prison, it was essentially like a bear hunting a rabbit. It wasn't exactly fair was it? He was supposed to be in another area of the prison for a start.
But, obviously I will learn from this obvious lack of judgement from my part as CwazyWabbit said. But I wish I didn't have to, I tried setting up my own server for me and a couple of friends. Everyhting was enabled properly, even my firewall was altered to let other people into the server, my port was forwarded but nobody could even log in. So I'm effectively forced to play on other servers. And I don't fancy playing a private server with anybody unless I know them.
Put it this way, the guy who pulled that stunt on me won't be getting any future respect on that server.
Thanks for the feedback anyway guys.
