Hey there! Welcome to the Forums!

I wouldn't go with Gratis if I were you. I've had *very* bad experiences with them. You would be much better getting a server from one of the companies on the Forums.

I'd suggest you follow this helpful guide (it's pinned at the top if this forum if you ever need to refer to it) if you really want a free server. You'll need a really good idea and a skill (or many skills) to give back to hosts if you want a stable, reliable, 24/7 server.

Best wishes,
  Entei

Thanks for all the wonderful info. The guide was very helpful. The website http://freeminecrafthost.com  says that the server can only have 4 players?

Yup. FMC is a pretty good site if you want a tiny little server for Youtube Let's Plays or something along the lines of that. However, if you want something larger, you'll need to ask on the forums.

And to ask on the forums, you'll need a shiny new idea and a few skills to give back to the host.

Honestly, No server host will give you any more than 4 players anyway unless you have a really good idea/theme or a huge fanbase! :)

If you wish for a simple approach. we are giving away free servers again from CraftHost. These servers have FTP and BukGet. Please keep in mind that these are low ram servers but are not throttled other then that. You also have to make sure you actually use it. Servers that don't get played that are free get removed. We have limited space.

Feel free to try use out at www.crafthost.us/

I would suggest paying for quality hosting unless things like lag, up-time, and reliability are of no importance to you.
