Introducing the brand new Aurora making mod:

Aurora Rubealis

Features:
Aurora Rubealis adds curvy undulating auroras to Minecraft.  They slowly become brighter as the sunsets (starting at 13000 Minecraft Time), and fade out as the sun begins to rise (22500). Like the Aurora Borealis of the real world, they will only spawn in the “northern” cold climates.

Client/Server Load:
The mod does not require the client to have the mod. In other words, any player can play on a server with the mod installed and vise versa. Load on the server is very minimal, with the vast majority of the burden on the client. However, during play testing, the Auroras had minimal effect on performance (your experience may be different though).

Download and Installation instructions:

  • Download Aurora mod (Direct AdF.ly Download)

  • Download Minecraft Forge (recommended build 497)

  • Open your minecraft.jar. It will be in your .minecraft/bin folder. For finding the .minecraft folder, search for operating system specific instructions.

  • Delete Meta-INF. Failing to do so will cause issues.

  • Copy the contents of the forge zip into the minecraft.jar

  • Open the .minecraft/coremods folder. You can either create the folder, or run minecraft to create this folder

  • Extract the aurora mod jar to the .minecraft/coremods folder.

  • Enjoy
Change log:

v1.0.1:
  • Streamlined version checking
  • Fixed an issue when time was added. Auroras should spawn more consistently now.

Oooh... pretty...

Why don't you try to add more variants though, instead of just green? Maybe you could have a red one, lots of different colors :D

In the RubeAurora.cfg there is an option called biome list. You can add any biome you want to that.

For the initial release, the colors are going to be the more natural green. In future releases, I'm going to add color shifting and some other fun stuff.

Awesome!!! You should also do other different weather mod (saying that aurora are much more a weather. Posted Image)

EDIT : For example, could you add eclipse and solar eruptions? Posted Image

EDIT2 : And meteor? (they wouldn't touch the ground, just aestetic feature. Posted Image)

EDIT3 : And telescope? Posted Image

EDIT4 : Different kind of rain and snow too! (light rain, heavy snow and much more. ;))

I wish they didn't look so curvy. Doesn't seem to fit well with Minecraft. Also, more colors please? Green is cool an' all, but Auroras are also red and purple at times, too.

This is awesome! What exactly is considered "North", Because I'm north of the x-line and in a snow biome, but I can't see it.

this would make mod #63 for me.... but it is causing a ticking world crash on loading/creating a world. (I say that, because I had the problem solved before adding this one to the list) It may just be the straw that broke the camels back as they say, or a conflict with one of the other 62 mods I run.

nice mod though! I'll check it out again the next time mc updates during my process of getting everything to work together.

If you post a crash log, I may be able to provide some insight into the problem. My mod should be compatible with most other mods. Are you using build 471 of forge?
