Ever wanted to make that banquet/feast in your castle set out on a table, but the only thing you can place is cakes? Sure, you can use item frames, but who puts food in frames on the wall? That's why I've come up with placeable bowls.
The main gist of this suggestion is that the wooden bowl would be placeable, as would mushroom stew. When you placed an empty bowl, you could right-click it with every eatable item to have a bowl with that food in it. Each food item would have a value out of 100, and you could put any combination of foods in as long as the value does not exceed 100. Here is a chart:
Apples - 25
Bread - 100 (appears as loaf)
Raw/Cooked Porkchop - 100
(Enchanted) Golden Apple - 25
Raw/Cooked Fish - 50
No Cake - It's already placeable!
Cookies - 10
Melon (Slice) - 25
Raw Beef/Steak - 100
Raw/Cooked Chicken - 100
Rotten Flesh - 100 (appears as mass of flesh, not one piece)
Spider Eye - 10
Carrot - 20
(Baked/Poisonous) Potato - 25
Golden Carrot - 20
Pumpkin Pie - 100
Any Potion (not Splash) - 100
Water Bottle - 50
Glass Bottle - 50
The food would be rendered in 3D with the new 3D item rendering, but only on Fancy graphics mode.

I voted yes to the idea but voted no to having more than one food type per bowl. Not that I would mind if there were more than one food item in a bowl. Just because it sounds like it would be less work for Mojang, which makes it easier to implement, which in turn makes it more likely to be implemented.
But good idea and I like how you have thought it through more than just "add placeable bowls" without making it overly complicated.
Nice idea, although shouldn't you be able to put 9 melon slices in? That would be a full melon and IRL you could fit a melon in a bowl, unless it was tiny. Although, then again this depends on the size of the bowl.
It would be even more awesome if the food in the bowl changed depending on how many were in there. Like only 1 apple would be rendered if you only put 1 apple in the bowl.
Also, would you be able to mix food items?
Like maybe each food has a value out of 100. You can put any combination of items in there as long as the total value doesn't exceed 100.
Using your numbers, the value for each food item would be so
Apples - 25
Bread - 100
Raw/Cooked Porkchop - 100
(Enchanted) Golden Apple - 25
Raw/Cooked Fish - 33
Cake - 100
Cookies - 10
Melon (Slice) - 25
Raw Beef/Steak - 100
Raw/Cooked Chicken - 100
Rotten Flesh - 100
Spider Eye - 5
Carrot - 20
(Baked/Poisonous) Potato - 25
Golden Carrot - 20
Pumpkin Pie - 100

Thanks for voting yes to idea, and thanks for explaining why you voted no to more than one food type, instead of just saying, "LOLZ ONLY 1 FOOD TYPE LOLZ". Also, thanks for the support.
5 potatos instead of 4
No cake: You can already place it
10 Spider eyes
2 fish
Thanks for the support. I'm not sure about the potato thing, I'll add it to the poll. No cake makes sense, I'll take it out. I'll change the spider eyes and fish because it does make more sense.

I wasn't thinking about mixing food items, but this makes a lot of sense. It would be easier to figure out the amounts. I'm not sure about 9 melon slices, they're about as big as apples, and apples are only 4. I'll change the original post to your idea of the value out of 100, since it sounds like it would work really well.
Placeably 3d models of everything would be a wonderful addition to minecraft. not sure about bowls but it has a place.
Thanks, I think ...
Just a small question, I'm not sure about putting it in the OP because I'm not sure whether it's a good idea, but does anyone have an opinion on putting potions in bowls?

I guess? It's basically picture frames for food right?
Plain Food Bowl: One food bowl has 9 slots(like droppers/dispensers), which are shown on a GUI, more food can be placed in as long as the limit is not reached. Limits are shown in the list below(my recommendation).
Stew Food Bowl: If the food ingredients are placed in the correct slot, it becomes a stew/large bakery. For instances, mushroom stew, rabbit stew(1.8), cake, pumpkin pie and etc. It returns as a empty bowl after it's fully eaten. Hence, food must be made on bowls but not on crafting benches, more logic and less changes(bowls can be made with just 3 cheap planks)
And, drinks(bottles) should be separated from bowls, they can be placed directly without a bowl. Can be broken down.
Fruits/Vegetables (Normal): 9
Golden Food: Max. 1
Meat (Raw/Cooked): 9
Bakeries:
- Cakes/Pumpkin Pies(Large bakeries): Put the ingredients into the bowl to make, must be fully eaten before placing other food(returning empty bowl after eaten), can be eaten multiple times
**Large bakeries will not return when breaking them, giving empty bowl only.
- Stews(Mushroom/Rabbit): Put the ingredients into the bowl to make, can break down to store or consume by right clicking the bowl, can be drunk once
- Cookies: 9
- Bread: Shows a loaf of bread when 9 breads are placed. (1/9 of loaf per bread)
Rotten Flesh/Spider Eye: 9

Yes, this would work well with the new 3D item rendering. I'll add it to the original post.

This is what i always wanted!
I used clay pots as pudding cups when making furniture....
Thanks!
Thanks! You used clay pots? How?
Thanks for the support, but why shouldn't Rotten Flesh or Spider Eyes be counted as food?

Yes ... but I think only one potion per bowl. Water bottles too, and empty ones. I'll add it to the OP.
We have 2 types of ways to put food in a bowl:
Plain Food Bowl: One food bowl has 9 slots(like droppers/dispensers), which are shown on a GUI, more food can be placed in as long as the limit is not reached. Limits are shown in the list below(my recommendation).

...but, something about spider eyes and rotten flesh masses in bowls disturbs me.
I don't like it!
