I was going through a cave somewhere down deep, and ran across a human skinned mob that was shooting arrows at me. He was not a villager but a regular looking guy, I remember he had red and brown "clothing" colors and was lighter skinned than default Steve.
I forgot the screenshot key and was getting pelted with additional arrows from a skeleton, with a spider on the way so I cut everyone down with my sword and did not get a pic.

Does anyone know who/what this was?  I have never seen nor heard of anything like this.  My searches here and on the Net have found nothing as well, but I may be using the wrong search strings.

P.S. I was playing vanilla survival single player, and had just updated to 1.4.6.

Nope. Bone stock, no mods, no texture packs.

Exactly he looked different than Steve, lighter skin, I believe no goatee, Clothes were different than solid shirt/ pants colors.  Man I wished I snapped a pic.

It could have been a skeleton decked out in a full set of leather gear. That would explain the reddish-brown clothing and the lighter face, and the fact that it was shooting arrows at you.

It was definitely not a skeleton, and also not wearing armor. I remember light brown hair, and red and brown among other colors. Not any one solid color or two like Steve.

Bob Fizzle could be right...or it could be a glitch. This is exactly why I don't venture into caves, because I'm scared of things like this.

It's either a glitch, or you're just making this up.

There is no existing mob in which has the appearance of a human. Don't even mention Herobrine, lol.

it was a skeleton, there is a lighting error for enchanted gear that can cause color skewing, I believe it was wearing leather armor and the game bugged the lighting, causing the animation of the enchantment to look like a red layer, I've seen posts about it and experienced it myself once.

I know I was kinda makin a joke about it, because one of the other ppl said "he was removed" and i was just saying how "well technicaly he is never removed".

It was something, if not a legitimate character, the likely culprit glitched skeleton because of the arrows, I was close too withing three/four blocks for a little bit before coming in close to cut him down.  I would swear it was another player, without armor based on shape/texture,  but I was playing singleplayer.

I was hoping someone had heard of something that would explain it better than a glitched skeleton. Maybe some kind of Easter egg, or new update. I was hoping the community could come up with something legit.


I almost did not post, fearing this would open the endless ****brine debate, sorry for that.

The Human Mob was removed but the textures for it still exist. Maybe something happened and maybe switched it around or something?

Like we've already stated, most likely a skeleton with dyed leather armor.
