I posted this on Reddit a couple hours ago, and I've already got to the hot page with 500+ upvotes (currently 6th place), so I think its safe to say, people liked it a lot.

Now that 1.4.6 has 3D item entities, wouldn't the next logical step be 3D placed items? For example ladders, rails, or even paintings.

I'm currently working on the ladders, as you can see, they appear in 3D kind of how they appear in the item frame.



If any other modders would like to help me make this, I could really use the help!

Other things that could be 3D:


- Vines
- Paintings  (already 3D)
- Lily Pads
- Iron Bars
- Redstone?



This is how i would like rails to look (Wooden part on the bottom, steel part on top)

I completely support, with vines, it should be a layered thing. e.g. vine texture over a rotated vine texture, like paper mâché.

Came here from Reddit, and I must say that I'm really looking forward to this.

I'd definitely like to see lily pads 3D.  It should go from the top and go down, though, as there's a small, 2 pixel (In terms of textures) gap between lily pads and the top of water.  But I'm sure you thought of that already.

Flowers, saplings, and other blocks that use the crossed square render method could like nice in 3D as well.  Not too sure about vines though.

I've never done any work with modelling or any advanced rendering stuff, or I'd be interested in helping out.  Good luck with the mod, though.  I look forward to it being completed!

Flowers, long grass, wheat, sugar cane, lilly pads, just go for gold.

The only thing you'd have to keep in mind is different texture packs, but I'm sure it shouldn't be too bad. Good luck!

Another feature I'd like to see is making items that can be placed down that aren't blocks, i.e. torches, 3D when you hold it. This can also apply to other items such as flowers, tall grass, flower pots, and signs. To not make the '2D' textures a waste you would only see it 3D in the hand.

flowers? mushrooms? cobwebs? long grass? saplings? glass panes? nether wart? sugar cane? potatoes? wheat? carrots? FIRE?!

It's a graphical change. So it can be to modify directly the classes or use forge. But I don't know if modloader can do this.

Hopefully the 3d rails won't require texture packs to have special textures.

I think this is a great idea as long as it doesn't affect joining vanilla servers. 3D redstone and rails just sounds amazing!
