This mod must be installed into the jar itself due to the low level fixes needed for it to work

To block your blocks from being moved via this mod just override the movability function to return 2 like obsidian. Or if you would like your block to pop like some other things do return 1.
BetterPistons is a fairly small mod with vast possibilities! BetterPistons is a mod for Minecraft 1.4.5+ that allows you to move all manner of things that where not supported like chests of if you play MystCraft you can move bookstands!
Nice and simple gameplay added with lots of endless possibilities!
Please let me know if you have any problems with it I think I worked out most the kinks but you know how it is with mods there is always something to didn't expect!

Tried it out, and it works perfectly! Chests do, in fact, move when pushed (or pulled) by a piston. If you want me to test other aspects of the mod, let me know.
Try to brake it! MUHAHAHAHA! *Cough cough* I mean uhh bugs.. yha thats it see if you can loose some items or crash the client somehow. In a repeatable manner and I will look into the bug!

FYI... Pics. You should have them. Also... Might want to update, as is you have it for 1.4.5. When we already updated to 1.4.6.
I totally agree how ever pics are pointless here no new items are added it changes the functionality of the pistons so they work as expected.
Also on the same line of thinking I am about to record and upload a video of my setup that I made using ComputerCraft nexto with this mod. It is an awesome setup if I do say so my self!

@ Eforen: Okay, here's what I found. Items in chests will stay in chests. Pistons do not lose functionality. Obsidian and End Portal Frames are not pushed. Blocks with torches on them lose their torch. No crashes, lag, or mod conflicts (with my mods). That's all I believe you'll find useful .
And I'll do a Mod Spotlight once I set up some bizarre contraption with it.

Fun thing to note you can push blocks with Signs on them! Or Signs that are just upright on the ground.
Another thing that would be interesting to know is if furnaces get slowed down while being moved. How ever It is semi Irreverent... It would not be something I could fix very easy... I would have to fix it in the furnaces code which I am trying to stay out of... Small foot prints small bugs and all...
@ Eforen: Well, I found a bug. Nothing to do with furnaces, don't worry . When a block with a sign on it is pushed by a piston, the block moves, however the sign remains stationary and sort of hovers in midair.
That Is part of how minecraft handles block updates >,<
P.s. It helps to push the record button when recording a spotlight! *Facepalm* That was practice I swear I didn't mean to record it the first time >.<
Just an fyi, if you are looking for bugs, test out the interaction of pushing a chest near a double chest. Minecraft prevents placing of chest beside eachother for a reason, if there will be a bug, that is once of the top contenders of where it would be.
