look at the last entry, under the 'notable bugs' section, for 12w50a.

It is supposed to happen only on Christmas day, so that's why they aren't appearing as gifts now.

Setting your clock to December 25 changes all of the chests in your world into presents.

You can test that by setting your computer clock to Dec. 25, restarting Minecraft, and place a chest in your world.

Ok I'm sorry, I didn't realize it was the 25th yesterday. Silly me. This thread clearly does not presuppose that we're talking about what happens on the 25th. It's talking about the patch in general.

For somebody with a lot of posts, you are pretty oblivious, I have seen you talking 'bout this patch in other threads.
The person asked "What is the Christmas surprise" well obviously there is no surprise if you play 1.4.6 right now, so it obviously happens on Christmas (which makes more sense anyway) so people just simply set their clocks to December 25th to see what happens, and the chests are re-textured to presents (small ones are red and big ones are green I believe)

You shouldn't really be talking about this patch though 'cause you obviously know nothing about it, you thought they would have to update the game to 1.4.7 to remove the Christmas surprise Evidence here, he is the 2nd post http://www.minecraft...ng-to-be-a-147/

Also, a skin for "skis" has been added in the minecraft.jar, so it is possible that by the time the Redstone Logic Update happens (which is in early 2013), we might have skis!

The surprise is supposed to happen on 25th December. If you change the date on your computer to then, if you look at the chests, you'll find that the textures are that of a present.

Technally.. It is true. It is the Chest are retextured, Only ONE Not DOUBLE Chest.
Go to the Calender, Change it to the 25th, Go to Minecraft, and you see that the chest are retextured as presents.

Actually double chests are retextured as well. Single chests are red and double chests are green.

Pictures don't work like that. You must post them to an image sharing website like Imgur, then copy and paste the link and wrap them in [img] tags like what you did there.

No offense to Malavok or anything. Just doing a few seconds of research before a post isn't too much effort. Posting pure speculation only leads to more speculation, which without evidence, is annoying.

Also, this does not apply to the 25th only. If you examine the code, it will work on the 24th until the 26th. It will change both single and double chests into presents. It is also permanently part of the code.

I'm well aware of what post counts show. But people judging by that? That used to happen way back when I got here. Sad to see some still judge the book by cover.

My chests and double chests look like presents and my computer date just hit 24. My chests were normal before I restarted minecraft after the date had changed from 23 to 24. I was playing before 12 over to the next day.

EDIT: Yay! Christmas tommorow!
EDIT: Also my minecraft decided to crash when I generated a world and loaded up the world for the first time on 24th. Crashes are a rare event on my machine.
