Jurrasic Terrain Generator!!! Three Biomes so far: giant redwood forest, open mixed treelands, rainforest
soon to come: desert (someone help me out with making a desert seem Jurrasic I got nothing ahha)
and a few others then I PROMISE YOU ALL AN EARLY RELEASE but it will just have the generator so you can all get used to the map plus the worlds are just sick. I'll just replace the nether with it in the early release so you can use it.
by early release I mean just the generator. I wanted to give you guys something to test out etc while I work on the rest :smile.gif: ETA for Dino Terrain Mod: the end of this weekend :smile.gif:)))))))
This is looking great! I would LOVE to help out on this project anyway I can; I have modeling experience so I can try some dino out(check my sig for my other projects!)
Grass didn't exist in the Jurassic. Maybe you could replace "dirt" in the level gen with "mud" that doesn't grow grass? It would really just be a cosmetic thing, maybe a dusty orange-red color to give a stereotypically prehistoric feel to the ground. Instead, you could spawn clusters of ferns or shrubs similar to the way flowers are handled, to give a kind of sparse, prehistoric feel to the ground cover.
Otherwise, savannas were pretty extensive in the Jurassic, and that would give lots of space for giant dinosaurs to exist. Remember that most of the trees were conifers, as well. You might also try to find some way to make a tree fern or cycad (looks kind of like a palm tree). I like the idea of mixing in Carboniferous swamps and Permian deserts, even though they are anachronistic to the Jurassic. I would love to see a Glacier biome, but there's no reason to get carried away with Mammoths and Cavemen.
As far as creatures, I think having a T-Rex, a Sauropod, pterosaurs and triceratops would make 90% of people happy. I would also love to see Plesiosaurs and Mosasaurs, as well as a Hadrosaurs and Pachycephalosaurs. A pack predator like Velociraptor would also be fun (remember that real velociraptors are fairly small, about the size of a turkey, not the giant nightmare fuel that they were in Jurassic Park). You could also add a large beetle or a large dragonfly for atmosphere.
Under no circumstances should you make this creature a denizen of the Carboniferous Swamps, if you choose to add that biome (click image for wiki information!):
10 blocks high however there necks can reach 20 blocks high.
You realize a block is supposed to represent a meter, right?
Apatasaurus could reach lengths of 20 meters, and the largest would have been almost 5 meters tall at the shoulder. The neck was only about 5 or 6 meters long, so you would be looking at something like... 5 blocks high, and the necks could maybe reach 8-9 blocks high. They would be 20 blocks long, but half of that is tail.
Now, there are really giant sauropods that would be almost as big as you describe. In the 1870s, a Sauropod called Amphicoelias was found that Could be something like 55 blocks long, 9 blocks tall at the shoulder, and might have been able to elevate it's head to the 17-20 block range. 35 blocks of that would be tail.
The largest well-attested sauropod, probably Argentinosaurus, would be 33 blocks long, 6 blocks tall at the shoulder, neck length of 8 blocks, and could maybe reach to 12 blocks. Half of the length is tail again.
T-Rex, for comparison, would be 4 blocks high at the hip, and 12 blocks long. Half of that is tail. The head (and mouth) would be 2 blocks long. Triceratops would be 3 blocks tall and 8 blocks long, with the head and frill being 2 blocks wide. One of my favorite dinos, Pachycephalosaurus, would be about 1.5 blocks tall and 5 blocks long. Velociraptor would be 2/3rds of a block tall at the hip, but about 2 blocks long, including tail. Iquanadon would be 4 blocks tall at the hip, and 10 blocks long.
Interestingly, these are almost all Cretaceous dinsosaurs. Here are the sizes in blocks of some well-known jurassic dinosaurs:
Allosaurus (Which is the same size as the T-Rex, essentially)
Stegosaurus (4 blocks tall including plates, 9 blocks long. Largest plate would be just over a block in size)
Anklyosaurus (armored with a clubbed tail, 2 blocks tall, 6-7 blocks long)
Brachiosaurus (same length as apatasaurus, but taller by a block or two)
Dilophosaurus (The crested and frilled dino in Jurassic Park, just over 1 block tall at the hip, 6 blocks long)
Apatasaurus and Amphicoelias were both alive during the jurassic as well.
Ceratopsians like Triceratops first show up in the late Jurassic, but they did not really get the large size and frills till the cretaceous.
I love those forests, and the red night... You should include a seperate download for just the changed biomes or just the dinosoars, along with one with both included.

Allosaurus (Which is the same size as the T-Rex, essentially)
Dilophosaurus (The crested and frilled dino in Jurassic Park, just over 1 block tall at the hip, 6 blocks long)
Allosaurus was about 3/4 the size of the T-Rex.
And Dilophosaurus were not actually frilled and acid spitting small creatures. They were about 20-30 feet long and only had two crests. Jurassic Park screwed it up.
I have three biomes... That's good enough for now! TIME TO START THE DINOSAURS!!!!!
Did you at least like my suggestions? That's gotta be the fourth time someone asked for help or suggestions, I spend a long time typing up a decent response, and I get completely ignored. Sigh...
Excelent Idea! Althought the only thing I dont understand is how to get home? You put another flux on a dino-pig? ( could you imagine? ) Or will there be like a tele-home block..
Dude, minecraft didn't exist in the jurrasic... i'm sure the 3000+ views proves that NO ONE CARES

Heaven is not a place, or a time, it is perfection.
So, when YOU start touching perfection, you will start to emerge in heaven.
(please dont hurt MR.Creeper, he only wants t-SSSSS-boom! uhh...give you hugs!)
IM DECIETFUL!

But good luck with the dinosaurs!
Support. I'd love to see this.
Another than that,
