So, how do you find your diamonds/majority of your diamonds? Through branch mining? Caving? I want to know what you guys think the best way to find diamonds is.
I branch mine by making a branch, let's say 200 or so long (idk I just go) then bringing it back to my main room/hallway on both sides. Each branch had 3 spaces in between.

Cave mining and exploring is hit and miss. Sometimes I happen to find some while exploring and that's awesome but I find if I go exploring for the sole purpose of finding diamonds I don't get very far. There's also a problem with finding caves/mines that are at a low enough level to find diamonds and more often than not they end up leading you back up above y16.
What I tend to do is sort of random mining, with a preference for digging towards the sounds of lava or water running. This increases my chances of running into a cave below y16 or just finding diamond in the process. Probably not the most efficient method but I find it's less tedious than branch mining.
A combo of caving and branch mining. I seem to always run into some abandoned mineshafts, so I will look around if they delve down past 15 for diamonds. Otherwise, I branch mine for the majority of my diamonds. I also use the testificates for trades to get diamond armor and tools. That really takes the pressure off for finding butt loads of diamonds, IMHO.

Mostly from mining straight at layer 12 (feet pos). I do some caving and sometimes find diamonds that way, especially when I find an abandoned mineshaft below y16

Yeah, I've heard more and more people are mainly trading the villagers for their diamond tools and armor, which is something I might have to try out in the near future
Forever both a Chrono Trigger fan and a brony.
