Since a couple of days ago, I've been working on my mob farm.
I've put plenty of work into this project and I'm really proud of how it turned out.
There is one problem though.
My world has always been filled with a crap ton of monsters (I'm playing on Hard difficulty btw) and they're still spawning.
The problem though, is that they're spawning everywhere but in the farm!
Even on the roof!
I'm pretty disappointed about this problem, due to the fact that I've been putting a lot of effort into this farm.
Are there any "hostile mob farming" expert out there that can give me a quick hint on what I've done wrong? Posted Image

Have you lit up any caves? If there is even a small amount of unlit caves, your rates arent going to be that great, if any monsters even spawn at all. Also, your design isnt very effective at making sure the mobs make it into the water, I suggest you try a more effective design (just do a google search or something) :)

You're right i have seen an LP (By ethoslab) and i have been trying something like this too, lighting up caves within a few hundred blocks helps a LOT and so does lighting up the surface and the area around the system its self
95% of teens would scream if Justin Beiber was about to jump of the top of the Empire State Building. If you are in the 5% that would grab a seat and some popcorn and yell JUMP! JUMP! JUMP! post this into your sig. :)

The design uses dispensers wich dispense water to make the monster out to the middle :)
I've lit up a few caves, but I still haven't seen any mobs inside the trap =S

This may seem like a stupid question, but you do have dry areas inside the farm them to spawn in right? Mobs don't spawn in water except squid. I wouldn't have asked, but your use of dispensers made me think of it.
What is this signature thing? Is it just a means to get attention? Could it be a desperate cry for help? Maybe it's just a way to amuse one's self. On a side note, quote me if you want a response.

What I do, is that I let the monsters spawn on the wood and when I feel for it, I dispense the water from the dispenser to push 'em all to the middle.
When I'm done, I take the water back so the mobs can spawn again.

You're not going to have an efficient farm when they do start spawning :S

Anyhow, to make this work right you need to light up all the caves in the area. Like completely, everything needs to be higher than light level 7 I think it is. For good measure, throw some torches on the ground below and on any other dark surface, including the top of your farm.

Okay, that answers my question. Helenaliyn is correct though. Digging permanent trenches would be more efficient. Also, flood your spawner and check for deadzones. It's possible that the water currents are neutralizing each other, and mobs are't pushed out.

The problem isn't that the water doesn't push 'em to the edge.
The problem is the problem is that not a single monster are spawning in the farm!
