Well, not a whole lot is known about him except that he had Equestria (The MLP world) in the grip of chaos for a long time, before Princess Celestia (Generic monarch) encased him in stone with The Elements of Harmony.
Then, in the actual show, he managed to break out, and he did the same thing.
Except this time, he was defeated by a pony named Twilight Sparkle and her friends, again, with the Elements of Harmony.
That's pretty much all that was ever revealed.
