Is there even a enchant command in vanilla minecraft? Hmm must have missed the patch notes or somthing then.
looked around for it, syntax is : /enchant [name of character] [enchant id] [level of enchant]

One final tip to note about using this command is that it enchants the item in your hand.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.

What u need to do is hold the weapon or tool u want to enchant then type /enchant (Your Player Name) then the enchant id the only one i know is sharpness which is 16 so type /enchant (your player name) 16 then 1 to 5 as the level

You do /enchant [playername] [enchantment ID] [level]

Here are some enchantment IDs:

16: Sharpness (1-5)
17: Smite (1-5)
18: Bane of Arthropods (1-5)
19: Knockback (1-2)
20: Fire Aspect (1-2)
21: Looting (1-3)

The above enchantments are for swords only. If you try to add it with anything else it will say:

The selected enchantment can't be added to the target item

In an Command Block, you would put enchant @p [enchantment] [level]

You can use @a and @r too.

If you are really having trouble with this command I'd suggest getting SinglePlayerCommands, because it allows you to use the command like this (for example):

/enchant Sharpness 10

Simpler and there is no limit. You can put enchantment levels at 1000 if you want.

I too have a question regarding this command:

What is the enchantment ID for "Power"?
