Hey guys. I wanted to start a small server for friends and a few others with my own hardware. I have an older computer that I was thinking of using. Its got:
Intel Pentium D 820
Super Micro PDSML-LN2 mobo
2GB of ECC DDR2 667MHz RAM
XGI Volari Z7 on-board graphics
I do have a good, fast internet connection.
I am worried that this is a bit lacking but I am not 100% sure. What would you guys suggest for cheaper hardware that will run a small server?
Also, could I get away with desktop hardware or should I get more server based hardware like a server cpu/ ECC RAM etc.

It really depends on what you want your server to do, If you want just a vanilla server then your fine, but if your running like 600 plugins then you might need an upgrade. If you completely dedicate that machine to the server and have a fast internet connection you should be fine for the most part. This doesn't meant you won't have any lag though
