Hello people from the Minecraft forums!
I just got windows 8 and i downloaded java to launch my minecraft but it crashed!
I tried first to download java and it said that it had an error while downloading it because it says to do it in desktop mode but i dunno what that isPosted Image
So after it downloaded without any problems (when i tried to download again the normal one) i downloaded minecraft and i launched itPosted Image
It came up with minecraft launcher, i thought it was all ok but it wasnt....

  Bad video card drivers!
  -----------------------

Minecraft was unable to start because it failed to find an accelerated OpenGL mode.
This can usually be fixed by updating the video card drivers.

Like the above, update your Drivers. However, if that doesn't work, then there's a possibility that Windows 8 is just a Windows Vista Mk II.

Well you might be lucky with the win 8 ,but most people here who got it experience the same problem with bad graphic drivers ,even if they have updated ,and it is really common problem.

To op , this question is been asked many times ,I suggest next time to use search option .

Try optifine

Optifine won't help him if the game won't even start up. Optifine is for people with low FPS. It will NOT update your video card drivers, nor is it meant to help fix Minecraft startup issues.

If you have installed windows 8 drivers for your graphics card from the manufacturers site. (www.amd.com or www.intel.com or www.nvidia.com), but the game still doesn't work, Windows is overriding the drivers. You need to manually override them.
  • Go to Control Panel
  • Go to Device Manager (You may have to change the view of control panel to see this)
  • Expand Display Adapters by clicking on the arrow
  • Right click your graphics card and select Properties, for example, mine was named AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200
  • Go to the Driver tab
  • Click Update Driver
  • Select "Browse my computer for driver software"
  • Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
  • Select the driver that is NOT from Microsoft Corporation
  • Click Next
  • It should now install the driver software, this may take a few minutes. During the proccess your screen will go black, but it should come back shortly after, this is because in order for your computer to change your driver, it must uninstall the old driver which displays graphics on your screen
  • You have successfully changed the driver of your computer, you should not need to restart, however, if you are still failing to play, do so now

That has nothing to do with it.

What video card do you have? How are you updating the drivers?

Well basically:
I went to device manager (from control panel) as an admin of course... Then i went to the display adapters then it only had one of them called "Intel® G45/G43 Express Chipset (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1)", I went to its properties, driver, update driver then Browse my Computer then "Let me pick..." option. Then there were 2 of them, 1 called "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" and the other 1 called "Intel® G45/G43 Express Chipset (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1)". I clicked on "Intel® G45/G43 Express Chipset (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1)" one and my screen went all black then it restored (im having to write this again because i was writing while doing it and the page went white and all my writing was gone Posted Image ) so then I went to minecraft and it still said (after logging in at the launcher then updating minecraft for a second):
