The Issue

So right now, ocean biomes are pretty barron and usually very boring and tedious to cross. Many players won't bother and just stick to the land they spawned on as a result of this. So what if we made more of a reason to go out exploring them?

The Idea

On the rare occassion, shipwrecks could spawn at the bottom of the ocean in ocean biomes. These ships would be made primarily of wood and wool for the sails and would have chunks missing from them allowing them to be navigated. Water could also not spawn in them making the only water inside them water that has flowed in. This would make them possible to navigate without drowning.

Why Have Them?

The pirate ship wreckages would obviously be quite hard to get to and from without taking drowning damage, therefore they could contain several chests containing rare loot. It could spawn in fairly large quantaties too making it worth your time to explore them. The chests could contain all sorts such as tools and weapons, armour, iron, gold, diamond, emeralds, TNT, and much more. They could even occasionally contain enchanted gear.

Some More Specific Stuff

Shipwrecks could come in one of three sizes, the amount of loot depending on the size. Small ships could generally have 3 chests with a slight chance of one of them being a double chest, medium ships could have 5 chests, with a slightly higher chance of a few of them being double chests, and large ships could have 8 chests with a fairly high chance of any of them being double chests. Double chests would yield more loot.

Over To You

Feedback on the idea would be appreciated. If you have any ideas of stuff that could make this idea better, feel free to let me know.

This is actually a REALLY good suggestion. I'm tired of the usual "Let's add another dimension!", "Let's add laser guns!" nonsense.

Another way of making oceans seem more "alive" is to make more aquatic organisms that spawn in it, like new mobs and plant life.

What would making the ocean bigger do? Making the ocean bigger with absolutely no features to it will only make it more boring -.-

SUPPORT! oceans are so annoying!

but one thing....

PIRATE SKELES!

they would have a bow AND an iron sword, doing 3 melee and 3 ranged damage! they have 15 hearts. However, they drop valuable loot, making it worth killing one. The bigger a ship, the more skeles 1-3 on a small, 2-5 on meduium, 5-10 on a large.

the captin may spawn, 1 per ship. he does more damage (4 and a half hearts) and more life (35 hearts) but drops EPIC loots!

I support. We should have a new dark "water-soaked driftwood plank" because I love spruce wood, but there aren't any other types of wood that go good with it.

Definitly!
The only reason I like oceans are to make a house near/ on it, and that can easily be accomplaished by an over-sized lake. Ships would make me actually like them for more than just location. And about pirate skeletons...how about just normal skeletons spawn there, but with a raised chance of armor, and a gaurantee of sword skeles? So that way they don't have to make a new mob entirely, just the structure.

that would probably work pretty well.

This.

I know for a fact this has been suggested before, at least a couple of times by different people. However, the difference is that this suggestion is well formatted and worded, and much more simple and concise.

Personally I like it that people don't bother to go exploring across oceans--it makes it that much easier to hide a base when you can put it out in the open and nobody malicious will ever see it just because it's across or in the ocean.

I don't think having massive amounts of valuable goodies in them is the best idea. They should probably have about the same amount of valuables you would find in a pyramid or jungle temple.
