I play on a server that had its entire map area pre-generated before 1.4 came out

is it possible to find any of the new content on the server? we found carrots and potatoes on zombies but

we havent found any witches yet, no bats, no wither skeletons, no heads, none of that

You will have to go where no man has ever gone before. Literally. If you have ever loaded a chunk, it will not have new content. You would have to go far enough to load new chunks.

That means you have to go walk outside of the area you have already explored. It doesnt mean that the first thing you find will be a swamp with a witch, but it is the only way for new features to get generated

It would take 80-90 hours to just reach the end of the world, let alone explore the entire thing. You must have more to explore! Also wither skellies should spawn, that has nothing to do with the world.

Bats will spawn in chunks made before 1.4.... I have a ravine house that I've lived in since 1.2.5, and bats spawn still.

ok people have found bats and wither skeletons apparently

but i dont know about witches yet

also the world has a border and the whole area inside it was pregenerated

I think witches only spawn near witch huts, which are a generated structure.
