This is gonna be a quick, short, simple post, but with some good info.
I'm sure a crossbow has already been suggested, probably several times, but these are my detailed ideas on it:
The crossbow is crafted with 3 iron, 2 string, 1 stick, and 1 bow.
I would put my crafting table pic here but imgur is being stupid..
So I'll try my best to text-draw.
[Ir][Ir][Ir]
[S][B][S]
[ ][Sk][ ]
Ir=Iron
S=String
B=Bow
Sk=Stick
The crossbow is more efficient than a bow in these ways:
-0.5~2.5 Hearts more damage
-A bit longer range
-No need to draw back, so faster reaction
-More accurate, since the arrows fire faster and not in an arc
The only drawback is:
-Shorter range, but only by a few blocks
I hope you like my ideas ^.^

Nice idea, if your not sure if it has been suggested, use the search bar.
Crafting seems nice, but in reality, crossbows have worse aim and can't shoot ass far. You might be thinking of a compound bow. However if it was implemented I would think it would have a shorter range but can shoot faster, that's it.

I'm sure a crossbow has already been suggested, probably several times, but these are my detailed ideas on it:
It's been suggested thousands of times.
The crossbow is crafted with 3 iron, 2 string, 1 stick, and 1 bow.
I would put my crafting table pic here but imgur is being stupid.. (You sure it's imgur?)

The crossbow is more efficient than a bow in these ways:
-0.5~2.5 Hearts more damage
This would be overpowered as F***.
-A bit longer range
-No need to draw back, so faster reaction
So, basically, you can spam arrows really fast with this thing?
-More accurate, since the arrows fire faster and not in an arc
And follow the target using heat seaking technology.
The only drawback is:
-Shorter range, but only by a few blocks
Wait, you just said it had longer range!
I hope you like my ideas ^.^
No, I don't.

I kinda like the idea, but crossbows use bolts, not arrows.
A crafting recipe for bolts can be like this:
(E)(E)(E)
(S)(S)(Ir)
(E)(E)(E)
Ir: iron
S: stick
E: empty

Personally, I would be open to the idea. However, the way you have them working is incorrect.
My idea:
First, you would pull back the crossbow string, or "prime" it. This would take somewhat longer than a bow's drawback speed. The crossbow would continue to be pulled back until you let go of the mouse, or until it reaches it's maximum drawback length (In which case letting go of the mouse does not cause it to fire). It would stay in this state unless you put another item in your hands (Which would reset it), or it is fired. To fire it, you'd press right mouse again.
Now, actual performance? 0.5-1 hearts more damage, MAX. The bolt/arrow (Probably could still fire arrows) would travel about 50% faster than a bow, making it (Possibly) useful for long-range fights.
Finally, with a primed crossbow, you would be able to walk, but not sprint.
So, to conclude:
Advantages over a bow:
-Ability to be constantly ready to fire
-Higher bolts speed (About 50% higher)
-Slightly more damage (1 heart MAX)
-Ability to walk with primed weapon.
Disadvantages:
-Long reload time.
-Higher material cost
-Slightly lower accuracy (Your screen would not zoom in, as it does with a bow.)
-----------------
That's my idea. Like I said earlier, I'm open to it.

The crossbow should be slower to load, but slightly more damaging and way more accurate.

which are basically arrows with fire charge in them

first of all cross bow medium range plox and make it like old arrows very weak but rapid fire and any of u argue "cross bows take long to reload" well has anything in mc been realistic.
Idk whens the next update so don't ask me

This, 'crossbow' idea seems reasonable enough. And from reading all of the comments, with the ability for you to walk around with it like a bow, why not give it the ability to ignore 1/8 of the armor? I mean, seriously, this weapon was BUILT to spill blood out of a plate-armored knight.

This has already been suggested, but I suppose I could criticize it anyway, just because Jesus loves you.
For one, it has no disadvantages (except where you contradict yourself), and secondly, you aren't giving it enough detail. What about reloading? You forget to mention how that works.
Anyway, to some of you who seem to think that crossbows should not act like crossbows, why don't you suggest that shovels mine stone quickly whereas pickaxes dig dirt best? Yeah.

It's hard criticizing ideas when one is tired, so you'd better appreciate it when I criticize yours.
