As a long time gamer, I can say that Minecraft isn't going to die, long after Mojang stops updating it. There are people who still mod Half-Life 1. And I still play Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines, even through it was made in 2004, by a company who shut down less than a year after it released the game. If people love a game, they will keep it alive through mods. I was looking at someone who was talking about how he/she/it stopped playing Little Big Planet. I played LBP until 2 came out. And I got bored too, but that's because there wasn't a true modding community. People were limited with what they could do because it was a PS3 game. And even in in LBP2, you are still limited with it. But because of the the way you can (and will in the future) program Minecraft, the game is already in our hands. Those who like the vanilla game, I'm sorry. One day, Mojang will have to stop updating Minecraft, and you will be either stuck playing the game as it is, mod the game, or stop playing all together. I know people hate to hear (or read in this case) that but it's the reality of the Video Gaming World. Even the mighty World of WarCraft will one day stop updating. The Raids will end. The Horde will crush the Alliance. Look at City of Heroes/Villains. Personally, Minecraft need to make this Modding API soon. I'm tired of updating all my mods just to have the game want to upload a new version of the game in a few days, wait a week for all my mods to update, and do it all over next week. I say give the game to the people. Mojang needs to work on Scrolls!
Good to see that Dinnerbone cleared up some things. But I'm still confused.
So, what I got from his 2 posts was that we'll keep getting updates like usual. And we'll have additional plugins to add to our game if we'd like. Am I about right?

Well, from this part:
"And then in the future of that world this game gets an update, and it downloads it as it usually does. In the future again it gets an API, and then another future timeperiod after that it gets another content update."
I think what he basically means is that updates will always be the same, but there will be tools on the side, such as the api. It won't be like 'I dislike sounds so I'm going to have this plugin that doesn't have sounds instead of the one that does'.

I think I see what you're getting at. Thanks for helping to clarify.
This api sounds like the Bukkit api. You would need to know how to program if mc became community run

Please come check out my channel. I'm new to YouTube and do Minecraft and other games. My channel name is Temido2222. Views and subs would be appreciated!

I...uh...this hurts. The Mod API team (yeah, not being done by Jeb) is hired Bukkit members. It's almost like Mojang said "Let's find people who made a good Mod API, and hire them to make our Mod API". So it better sound like the Bukkit API.
Are you kidding me? All you have to do is comment something out to remove it, which is a lot less difficult than adding more code. Hell, if the code is long you can just drag and delete.
Mojang won't stop developing Minecraft until they're POSITIVE every bug is ironed out.
EDIT: I personally like MC where it is, because as the ones here who play ROBLOX know, ROBLOX updates are far worse then MC updates. Minecraft is the game they can stop developing and maybe less then a millionth of their purchases will stop playing. I just woke up, so correct me, but that equals to eighty?
When Minecraft is done being added on to by the team, I believe the community will keep it alive. A game like this simply will not fade away. Even years after Mojang has left it behind, years after it disbands even, I believe the game they built will remain. Why? Because Minecraft is more than a game.
It's an experience, a dream come true. The words that make up its name can be used to describe the game very basically, but that would be an injustice to what makes it truly special; us. The fan base.
But as to Minecraft being finished after 1.5? I don't think so.
I want minecraft to update like it always has been.

I had a feeling it was just a miscommunication.
There's so much more Mojang can add. There's quite a few things from the suggestions section I wish they'll add.
I've always avoided downloading mods. I just don't like a lot of things some mods add. I usually only want an individual part or parts of the mod.

I wouldnt be surprised it Mod API does not come out till Spring of 2013...
