I was wondering if some one knows of a way to make it so that I can turn off mob greefing when I type in the command it says that I don't have access to this command (FYI I am playing single player so its just me) I think that I have to tern on  the command but I have done a lot of work in this map and don't want to loose it.
I would be happy for any help.

To turn off Mob Griefing is quite simple. Here is the command.
Tutorial:
/gamerule mobGriefing [true/false]
Example: /gamerule mobGriefing false
This disables mobs griefing.
Example: /gamerule mobGriefing true
Allows mobs to grief.
Summary:
This command disables mob's griefing, like Creepers exploding and destroying land (Note that Creepers still explode and damage you, they just don't destroy the area around them) and Endermen from taking blocks. I'm sure it also disables silverfish from breaking into blocks and coming out from them - as they basically grief.

Try out these other commands too, all can be enabled/disabled in both Single Player and Multi Player.

/gamerule doFireTick [true:false]
Enables/Disables fire spreading.

/gamerule doMobLoot [true:false]
Enables/Disables mobs dropping items after being killed.

/gamerule doMobSpawning [true:false]
Enables/Disables mobs spawning, both friendly and hostile - day and night.

/gamerule keepInventory [true:false]
Even if dead, you can enable/disable players keeping their inventory after dying.

/time set [day:night]
Example: /time set day
*Will set minecraft time to "0" or morning time.

/help [Insert specific word(s) here, this is optional]
Gives you a list of all the commands, to switch pages, do:
/help [1,2,3]
Example: /help 1

Just look at the minecraft wiki for more commands, and as for the other people here, you guys aren't actually saying what he is asking, or saying false information overall. Anyways, good luck with whatever you are doing.

To keep your inventory when you die it's "/gamerule keepInventory true" (no quotes)
To turn it off just replace true with false, like before.

There are a few ways you can do this. The simplest method is the one described above. Enter your world, pause the game and slect the "Open to Lan option." When you do this, you will get some options. One of those options will be enable cheats. Make sure that is on then go ok.
Once this is done type in:
/gamerule mobGriefing false
After this, exit your world and re-enter to close your world to Lan (which does other things like making you unable to freeze the game when paused) and you will no longer be able to enter cheats but mob griefing should still be off.

Already edited my post to have more commands, as I see most people here (not saying you) don't seem to know how to answer this question, and if they do - it's false. :/

You can also use the 'tab' key to quickly cycle through option or to auto complete a command.
For example if you type in "/" then start pressing 'tab' it will cycle through all the commands available, in a particular order.
If you type in '/game' then start pressing 'tab' it will cycle through all the commands that start with 'game'. In this case it will cycle between 'gamemode' and 'gamerule'.
If you type in '/gamerule' then put a space then start pressing 'tab' it will cycle through all the gamerules.
You can also use tab for player's names. in a targeted command tab will cycle through all the players currently on the server in alphabetical order.
Not really anything to do with your problem. But it helps if you misspell things and is quicker.

That's probably because it wasn't programmed to obey gamerules, or you might not have done it right.
