caps your fps at your monitors refresh rate, typically 60 fps
since your monitor can only refresh so many times per second, any frames over this amount are technically wasted, and can put unneeded stress/wear on your gpu

It stops the monitor from rendering a frame until it's fully drawn. This prevents screen tearing, but can bring down your FPS to certain values (numbers like 30 or 60.) Only use it if you're experiencing tearing, else you're just hurting your performance.

Vertical Synchronization should only be used if you experience screen tearing, don't use it in any other case.

What happens if you use it when there's no screen tearing?

It just caps your FPS. Kind of annoying. Like others said, use it only if you have screen tearing.
Don't worry; I'm sure you'll be fine. But eventually, everyone runs out of Time.

It syncs your FPS with your Monitor Refresh Rate. (most likely 60)

Also if you're getting a max of 30 or 20 40 whatever FPS, don't think you can use it to gain more FPS. It just won't happen.
I can type 110 WPM.

Well could you also use it as a kind of way to make more stable FPs? Meaning just having it on to cap your FPs?
