TL;DR How to make a perfect house?

But how other people build they're houses are
1. They are experienced or get help
2. They have the same troubles as you, but they just expand the house
3. They use MCEDIT which is a 3rd party program to make structures or terrain and stuff like that

For size problems, don't be afraid to knock down walls and rebuild them where you need them.
Minecraft is creative art, so not all constructs are going to be equal.

Yeah that's probably the more organized way to do things in Minecraft and it's kinda of an all around thing. But personally I find that, that method is EXTREMELY boring for me and some others. Usually I build really poopy things though but I get something nice once in awhile and it's not through careful planning and detailing.
I just kinda look at other designs and sometimes real houses or structures and build something similar or use them for inspiration. Ya know, "hmm that looks good here, oh and that would mix well with this." Plus, you start gaining experience over time and it jus comes naturally. Specially if you jus walk around in some nice multiplayer servers, your eye kinda adjusts.
Noooow! When you're actually building things make sure you have room to adjust things because even if you plan out your creations they might and probably will look different when you're actually building. Make sure to get a certain room as furnished as possible cause you don't want to have to be removing everything later on. Oh, and even if you're think that you're done with a project, you aren't. You can always make small add ons
What is with these monsters?! D':

2. Prototyping with Dirt
3. sometimes Drawing some or all of it on Graph Paper (I always have a pad on a clipboard near me. Used for a lot more then MC).
4. and then Repeated Renovation until it's perfect
