okay i uploaded the screenshot to photobucket and it says i'm not allowed to use that image extension in this community..
I do not believe you did step 8 correctly, what you will need to is manually select the dirver from a list of devices, not let windows do it automatically. Have you checked whether or not your graphics card's manufacturer has a driver for that model though, it is highly likely that they have a new driver by now?

I have the same problem i think the reason is intel said that the windows 8 drivers are still in beta so that might be the issue for people running intel

I downloaded the new driver off the hp website I just restarted the entire process from scratch, my drivers are definitely up-to-date... I really think the issue I'm having is java-related.. here is my error message: Java Plug-in 10.11.2.21
Using JRE version 1.7.0_11-b21 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM
User home directory = C:\Users\Stephaney
----------------------------------------------------
c: clear console window
f: finalize objects on finalization queue
g: garbage collect
h: display this help message
l: dump classloader list
m: print memory usage
o: trigger logging
q: hide console
r: reload policy configuration
s: dump system and deployment properties
t: dump thread list
v: dump thread stack
x: clear classloader cache
0-5: set trace level to <n>

Is there an actual error message? This doesnt really provide any assistance, it looks more like a debug window than am error stacktrace. If the error says anything regarding opengl failing, it is graphics.

That's what shows up when I click details in the original error window, the original window shows : "Application Error: ClassNotFoundException: net.minecraft.Launcher"

Sorry for long reply, I've been busy. Try deleting your .minecraft folder then relaunching the client. If that doesn't work, try going to add/remove programs and features in the control panel, and delete all java and java updates, then go to java.com and reinstall java (7).

Sorry for long response time, I am not 100% sure if he did it this way or not, but the instructions as I remember are as follow:
Go to Control Panel
Go to Device Manager (You may have to change the view of control panel to see this)
Expand Display Adapters by clicking on the arrow
Right click your graphics card and select Properties, for example, mine was named AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200
Go to the Driver tab
Click Update Driver
Select "Browse my computer for driver software"
Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
Select the driver that is NOT from Microsoft Corporation
Click Next
It should now install the driver software, this may take a few minutes. During the proccess your screen will go black, but it should come back shortly after, this is because in order for your computer to change your driver, it must uninstall the old driver which displays graphics on your screen
You have successfully changed the driver of your computer, you should not need to restart, however, if you are still failing to play, do so now
I tried this same thing, but when i tried to use the other old driver it still wouldnt work, now i am completely lost and dont know what to do... any other suggestions?

Try installing the driver from the according graphics card website and then select it.

Bad video card drivers!
-----------------------
Minecraft was unable to start because it failed to find an accelerated OpenGL mode.
This can usually be fixed by updating the video card drivers.

I'm afraid I have to close this as it is turning into a mess with alot of people with different hardware posting their own issues here. Please create your own topic for each of your own issues.
