So the a week or two ago i attempted to install a few simple mods on my Mac and that didn't work. I tried to restore my minecraft to its previous state to the best of my abilities, and it seemed to run fine. But now that 1.4.2 is out I can't update. I can play in 1.3 but when I try to update it says 'fatal error occured (4): /Users/Conner/Library/Application Support/minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar
I don't know if its because of the failed modding, but maybe you guys can help. I thought i deleted it all and reinstalled it but I'm not sure. I'm still a new Mac user and don't know some stuff. So please try and help me!

Okay, Seeming that didn't work for you...
I only know the setup of windows 7. so if you don't have that maybe somebody else can translate.
Open the start menu>Type "%Appdata%" in the "Search programs and files" box.
Delete .minecraft
This will delete EVERYTHING. maps, servers, literally starting a-new. if you have worlds you'd like to save go into the "saves" folder in the .minecraft folder. make another folder on your desktop and move the saves files into that new folder.
if you want to save the servers move the servers.dat to that file you created.
After doing that just open your minecraft launcher and log in. now if you want your maps/servers back navigate into the .minecraft folder again and but the map files into the saves folder (if there isn't already one just make one) and for the servers (if there is one) delete the other servers.dat and replace it with the one you saved earlier.
I hope this helps!
