Hi all! I'm new to Minecraft world (my 9 year old son is actually the Minecraft enthusiast). He really, really, really wants to get the Zeppelin mod to allow his creations to fly and elevators, etc. This mod was not available for the 1.3.2 version we started with, and I'm wondering if anyone knows if the developer plans to update it for the 1.4.2 version?

Barring the ability to get this mod for our current version for Minecraft, two follow up questions:
1. Is there another mod with similar flying capability we should be looking into?
2. Should I try to back us up to the 1.2.5 version so he can use this mod? (and can I even do this??)

Thanks in advance for your help!

I have been searching for the zeppelin mod for 1.4.2 also but the closest thing I can find is to downgrade minecraft to 1.2.5 then install the Zeppelin mod.

I think the Zeppelin mod is what is called a "dead mod" I do not think the zeppelin mod will ever be updated again, the most recent update was for minecraft 1.2.5 which was two updates ago.

To downgrade your minecraft google "1.2.5 minecraft.jar" (Cannot post the link fore it is against the forum rules to provide a link to minecraft.jar files) then just open your minecraft folder by opening Run then type "%appdata%" open .minecraft>bin delete the "minecraft.jar" and replace it with the 1.2.5 minecraft.jar. Then download a Zeppelin mod installer (Just google it) let it install then your good to go.

One thing you should know is that the controller blocks (The block that allows you to fly your creation) do not appear in the Creative mode menu it must be crafted so google the crafting recipes.

Hope this helped. If you have any further questions please let me know

Actually the developer of Zeppelin will update the mod, but it is basically has to be re-done. The 1.3 update added built in multi-player to even single player games (using LAN) so now all mods must be multi-player compatible to work with minecraft.  This has created a huge obstacle for the modding community, which is why so many of the larger and more popular mods have not updated past 1.2.5 yet.

I don't know of any alternative mods like Zeppelin, but you may just have to wait until the mod is finally updated.

Umm, maybe ugocraft? It can't be flown around freely, but it can be used to make elevators and sliding/rotating things. It is Japanese though.

I considered the zeppelin mod a dead mod because the latest update for it was 1.2.5 but it's good to know that there will be an update do you know when.

I was watching the zeppelin mod until 1.3 hit its release. When 1.3 was released he stopped updating. I'm sure he's still trying to update it.

I'm still in the early developmental stages, but I am creating a mod that is similar to the Zeppelin Mod right now, and it should be available in time for this holiday season. It's going to be fantastic once I finish up.

Downgrade your minecraft using a program called MCNostalgia, look-up how to use it on Youtube, then download a zeppelin mod installer and install it.

Downgrading your minecraft also makes some really cool mods available such as: The zeppelin mod, Redpower, Flan's Modern Weapons mod, Flan's vehicles mod, and the Extra Big A** Villages mod (Not sure if I can say that on the forums so I censored it but you get the idea).

It will take a while, 1.3.2 completely reshaped the way Minecraft works. It hit single player mods that add very radical content very hard. The Zepplein mod is in both of those categories, the developer may have deserted it, or is working hard to bring it up to date.

I'm somewhat in the same boat here, looking forward to seeing the Zeppelin Mod updated - on my favourite map I have some small settlements on islands out in the ocean, flying there in creative mode takes the best part of ten minutes but flying their in a craft using the Zeppelin Mod it would take two or three minutes at most.

I could look into teleportation for this but being able to fly around and cover large areas so quickly was pretty awesome.

It might just be a rumour but I've heard that the creator of the zeppelin mod now works as a developer at Mojang, it believable as remember the control blocks, they were effectively the early prototypes of the command block, so there is a good possibility that we will see the zeppelin mod become an official part on mine craft, not sure how much of it is truth though :/

If you could also PM me that would be great. I am trying to create a server with some sort of decent flying mod like zeppelin but they're either all dead or just taking forever to update. I will hopefully be able to create the server by next year and if you can make it by then i would be greatful.

Wow Tah, you started an argument with just a question not even intending for all this feed back...

But yes, I'm sad to say that for now, you will have to downgrade. The only problem is if you open a map with the downgraded version of minecraft that map will be converted to that versions. Which will take out and change anything that is not compatible. So if your son built a really epic airship using the multi colored wood, or side wood blocks, or anything like that, it will be taken out. There is now way to reverse that so i sujest you make back ups of his maps or such.

As for the mod being updated to the current versions of minecraft.... It will take a while. The reason for this is the author/ Blackmajic, has to rewrite all the code (and for a mod the big and epic, it takes a lot of code) for the new singleplayer SMP and local hosting. He would have probly finished by now if minecraft had been updateing at the rate it did last year. But now Notch has steped up his game and is tosing out very good updates left and right.

I hope you read this because it is helpful!
