How do you get the beacons to work?

I tried to use the beacon but it wouldn't let me. HELP!

If you have a spare Iron/Diamond/Emerald/Gold, you could use that to set the potion effect that's granted.

make a pyramid just like on the picture of Omega74th than put the beacon on top wait for a bit until it fires the beam than select you effect put in a piece of gold, iron, a diamond or an emerald en your done.

You place iron, diamond, emerald, or gold blocks in a square and then u put the beacon in the middle on top
