This week, David and Toby tackle the last week of events, including the recent Snapshot's features, the full-scale recreation of the WoW realm, Halloween, and more - check it out!
The anvil is way too expensive.
To rename a single tool, you will need 55 iron ingots and 15 levels of xp (and the weapon can't be enchanted or it will cost more xp)
And it will eventually break.
It costs way too much.
There need to be some changes made to anvils.

I'm still using Windows 7.
I said this. Two days later, my computer's motherboard melted down and I had to get a new one with Windows 8.
Naming tools should be free, or at least cost 1 level. The price of naming tools, enchanted or not, is ridiculously high.
It's not like I kill 50 Enderman everyday just to get high levels. If I was able to make anvils without coding, I would make them a lot better than they are now, not much changes, just so they don't cost levels and so they last a little longer.
Basically, you can repair a tool by using another tool of the same type, right? But it costs levels, a lot of levels. So say, instead of the high amount of levels, it would cost the material the tool is made of, not much though, maybe just one. To name it, instead of costing levels, we could combine a tool and one paper to name it for a lower amount, one paper and maybe a few levels?
I don't know, just an idea they could try to enhance or something, but Anvils aren't what I expected that much, even if it is a snapshot.

Mojang will probably nerf the prices and remove the level cap. However, it should probably be expensive in a different way, because this tool is very valuable and it shouldn't be abused.

Even if Notch/Jeb don't fix this, why doesn't a modder make a plugin that gives you 15 levels when you change it or something? Or staff can just give the xp
Anvils are really cool, and don't get me wrong, what they can do already is cool... But I kinda was hoping that maybe instead you can actually fix a tool that isn't enchanted, without needing another tool... For example, put a stone pick in the left spot and maybe 1 cobblestone in the right side to completely fix it, and do that but with every tool... Maybe cost would vary with the type of item, being that armor would be too cheap to fix for just 1 piece of the material... But I just expected this being that I don't really like enchantments much... Mostly because why would you want to make your sword magically sharper when you can actually sharpen it?

Remeber its easier to earn exp in 1.3.2 and hopefully in this new, you get it fast by mining aswell as killing mobs and monsters. Maybe its the reason for the recuirements.
I love the concept of the anvil, but for 55 Iron ingots, I want an anvil that won't break just by using it. Perhaps, have the anvil only take damage when it falls. Perhaps the anvil shouldn't ever break, but by taking damage it requires more levels to repair equipment. I'm not sure.
The anvil is great, but the cost is too high considering that it will break down and be destroyed eventually. 55 Iron ingots ought to buy me a long-term fix to the repair-dilemma.

There really isn't a big shortage of iron anywhere in the main world. I just mine what I see when I'm going through caves and I often come back with a stack or more per trip. Doesn't seem to me like it's really that big of an expense for what it lets you do. You can stack enchantments manually with this block, so it's kind of insane in a way. I can see why it needs so much iron and why it doesn't last forever. It seems like a really powerful tool from what I've seen.
It takes a lot of iron because it's a huge benefit.

That's sort of what I had thought of when I saw anvils, I was a little disappointed to see that it was just an extension of the current repair system.

"HEY GUIZE! DID YOU KNOW THEY ADDED ANVILS?!?!?!?!"
"Yeah. I read it on the wiki as soon as the snapshot came out ."
"Oh...WELL DO YOU KNOW WHAT THEY DO?!?!?!"
"Um....yes...I just said, I wikid it..."
"Uhm...well we made a VIDEO of it!"
"Yeah. There's already 20 other videos on it."
"Well....um...uh...we're more famous than the other people who made the videos!!"
"Ok then..."

Joyamak
Not gonna lie.. When I first saw the anvil was added, I was wondering if it was affected by gravity, so that I could make a falling anvil trap... :3
