how do i stop my water from freezing?

ive placed torches all around my water but it keeps freezing?

Register or log in to remove.

have a block in the air above each source block. It doesn't matter how high up as long as it's directly over the water in question.

You could move your water to a non winterized biome...or just do what Jaxion08 said.

Torches only melt up to a few blocks away.  Your torches aren't close enough.

I hadn't played in a winter biome recently, however I was playing the skygrid map and it happened to be in one where I was at and I noticed torches are not so reliable about melting ice anymore.  I had to cover my water to keep it from freezing.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..

There's a borderline light level, I think 12, that causes a freeze/thaw cycle.  It's a nice touch, unless your farm depends on that water.

A trick I've used is a 3-deep hole:

Instead of the glass, a sign or ladder would work.

or just put a jack-o-lantern under each water block.

Put glowstone under the water.
